Overdrive with not turn off!

I have a 2000 F-350 with a 4r100 automatic in it. When you hit the switch on the shifter to take it out of overdrive it doesnt work. Has anyone else had a similar problem. I switched the button out with one in a truck that i know works.I dont know much about how it works so any help will be appreciated. where would a good place to start be?

Broken wire in colum? Also check fuse

the wires ended up being broken right where they come out of the shifter handle. I got a new handle from the dealer for $78 and it works fine now.
