So i think the front differential is going out in our 2004 3500 srw. When coming to a stop between 20 and 10 mph there is a shutter but it is smooth when driving. U-joints were checked.

My question is that is it safe to tow with? I have an upcoming 800 mile trip both ways that i need the truck for and dont have time to tear into it and see whats going on.

All opinions welcome

Symptoms do not sound like a bad diff. Sounds like a warped rotor or sticking caliper.

what would make you think that it's the diff?

The only reason i said the diff is because the garage we had it at thought that might be it but they also dont have much experience with these truck.

Also i fully understand that the best option would be to find out what it is now but i want to find out if you guys that may have had this particular problem might know what it is and if i can run it .

thanks

That's a rather vague description of what's happening. There's no way anybody can pinpoint your problem 100% without seeing it in person going from this much info. If the garage really thought it was the front diff, you could at least change the oil in it and do a visual inspection of the internals. Oil is cheap in the long run.
