Hey guys i just recently totaled my 98 cummins and am looking to get a duramax prob sometime this week. Ive found 2 2004's im pretty interested in. How well will the stock allison tranny hold up with a PPE hot+2 programmer? Like i said im new to the duramax's so any input would be of great help. Thanks guys.
 
It will hold up but not to the top levels. Depending on the abuse level 7 or so will be about it.
 
Yep 4th and 5th are weak, it will limp fast with that programmer. Also to run the higher levels on a PPE you will need a lift pump.
 
'04 model year came with 2 engines. Early '04's got the 1st gen LB7. '04.5's got the 2nd gen LLY.
LB7's have injector issues but are covered for 7 years/ 200k miles.
LLY's have over heating issues.

The 5-4 down shift (passing) is when I limped mine both times.
 
If you run less than a 90hp tune you should be ok. Anything more will be hurting Allison..
