I'm only going by a J/Y guide, but it calls them both as different.
I'm thinking it's one of 2 things that makes them "different":
Routing of E-brake cables and the way the axle mounts to the springs.

I'm also thinking the height of the spring perch may be different.

I've never heard that asked for an axle before so I assumed different.

My first reason for asking was to actually find out because I have a 3.73 11.5" AAM under a 2007 2500 2WD here, but I checked and it's apparently different from 2003-2005.
The apps go:

2003-2005
2006-2008

There are 8 distinct axle possibilities for a 2500 from 2003-2005:

AAM 10.5 2wd 3.73 or 4.10
AAM 11.5 2wd 3.73 or 4.10
AAM 10.5 4wd 3.73 or 4.10
AAM 11.5 4wd 3.73 or 4.10

What's so stupid about it is that the difference could be a simple modification away to make any of them work in place of the other.

At any rate, according to the interchange mine wouldn't work.
