Reman engine question w/ pics

I got a reman engine that came out of a UPS truck from a buddy. Was supposedly under 10k miles. Well i'm building a shorty truck with this engine. I pulled head off to get o-ringed and such. We seen something a little weird on #5 piston. All the pistons as you can see have sooty tops except for #5 which looks clean. (Disregard #1 i had wiped some of the soot off) Made me a little concerned, was wondering if any of the gurus on here may know what causes this and if it is an major issue. Also you can see in pics of head the line that goes around injector tip, on #5 it was the only one that had anything like that not sure if that tells anything.Thanks!

Through my past experience in diesel tech courses, I would say that it had a coolant leak at #5 and the water/coolant vaporized and "polished" everything. Although, I'd like to think that the valves and cylinder head would be "polished" as well.

It also appears to me that the head has cracked around the injector bore and between the valves. If that is the case, it's awfully big to be able to see it with the naked eye. Have the head hot tanked and magnafluxed. That will show you where the cracks are, if any(more).

Those UPS and FedEx drivers don't care. They'll start the motors and put the hammer down immediately. For only having 10k miles on it, I'm sure it's been thoroughly abused.
