My daily driver a 99 24v did it this morning I started it up fine and when I started driving the motor ran away and I threw it in nuteral and shut it off. Now it won't start what could be the issue I have no idea were to start
 
Pull your air filter and make sure the turbo isn't leaking oil into the intake. It may be burning oil if your turbo let go. I'm no expert, but the first thing that came to mind.
 
Sounds like it's an electronics issue. If it was truly running away burning oil it would smoke badly and not even slow down if you shut the ignition off.
 
How far did it go? Possibly apps but it should still start.
