has anyone ever had a set of studs come out of a truck that were pretty rusty at the block threads? most of the studs that came out of my truck were rusty, and a pia to remove, i am going to clean out the block threads, and bottom tap them. i really dont want to get a new set if i can avoid it, i have a really good bead blast cabinet at work, and im wondering if i can remove the rust, and repaint the studs with a light coat of paint? thoughts or ideas on this one guys?? i apreciate any response. thanks guys.

If it's light surface rust I might give them a shot but I'd trash them if they are pitted.

Wes, I would not paint them. I would think that is just a problem waiting to happen.

Dan, they are ARP2000's IIRC

Lloyd - so you think no paint at all, i dont want then to rust down in the block again, maybe just oil the hell out of them?, also could i use anti seize on the threads that go into the block??? thanks for the responses guys.

I would just oil the hell out of them, maybe use a wire brush to clean the rust off the threads(assuming they aren't pitted) and reuse them... I agree with lmills on no paint.

never seize is prolly the best bet, got the stuff rated for heat (like for exhaust bolts) so it doesn't burn off on the the hot side of the head, it'll stop the corrosion and stay there for much longer than oil.
