I purchased a timing gear from Scheid adjustable timing gear when building my truck this winter. Im trying to get more timing and was wondering how I go about pumping it to 28. Right now the pump is timed to 22* and I have the number 6 pump. I had the pump bench set to 22* so im not sure how I go bumping it to 30* can I do it with the pump in the truck or do I have to pull the front cover and pump out?

If you have the #6 pill in the gear your probably going to have to jump a tooth unless its slid to the low side of the slots. As for timing you need to use plunger lift. Gear won't time it for you

Can I pin the motor at tdc and time the pump without pulling the.cover and be able to.just drop another puck in and be done. I started with the 0 puck and played with them all the way up.to 6 thinking it was bumping the timing up every time I switched the puck but scheid said the numbers were just for reference to which one it.had in it not the amount of timing adjustment.

pull front cover , set pump where u want it , then put gear on where u can change timing either way .

Thanks guys yeah I was a little confused when the guy at schied told me the numbers on the numbers are just reference to the puck your putting in and not how much your adjusting. So when he said just pjn the motor and set the pump timing then reinstall whatever puck fits I was confused

I just changed mine. I had the #6 plug in in the retarded position, I went to the #0 plug. It changed the timing right about 8*.

There is thread on this do a quick search it has some good info in it

Standing in front of the truck, if you rotate the engine counter clock wise with the pill out of the pump gear and the other 4 bolts loose, it will advance the pump timing. So you could figure out which pill is in it that way.

Kind of hard to explain. When using the offset plugs, if the thinner side of the plug is "behind" the direction of rotation, the plug is in what I would refer to as the retarded position. If you took the plug out and turned it a half turn, you would then have to rotate the pump drive hub clockwise, or advance it, to get the same plug and bolt back in. At that point it's in what I would refer to as the "advance" position for that particular plug.
