So I am working on my cyl head, 96 180hp 12v. I bought a tool and machined the valve spring pockets down so the marine valve seals would fit. the bases are .030 thick, do I need to machine the bottom down that much to make up for that? I was hoping the valves and seats being down almost to the max depth would make it work, but I don't think it will.
I am running 60lb springs and pdd retainers, which also change the height, as the retainers are machined lower. Is 1.94 installed height what I'm looking for? can't find that spec in any of my cummins books.

Buy a cheap valve spring height tool from summit or jegs. Then no guessing.

The ghetto way is just install them, and look for any signs of coil bind.

don't want to ghetto it. was hoping someone has the min/max specs on them.

I read your question wrong.

Looks like 1.90 to 1.95 everything I've ever seen on them.

ok thanks. waiting on more stuff to arrive tues now. Don't know when I'll actually get this done and in the truck.
