I'm picking up a new water pump from cummins tomorrow, but they didn't have a tstat.

I also called dodge, and they didn't have a fan in stock either. They quoted $260 for the fan clutch.

I called O'Reilly and they can get a tstat and fan clutch tomorrow.

O'Reilly has the tstat for $12.00, and the fan clutch for $50.00.

Should I but them, or just wait and order factory?

Get an electric one like several have done. I think they get them off Lincoln vehicles for like $50. I haven't heard a whole lot of good out of the off brand tstat.

since the coolant is basicly out of it... pull the radiator and clean the bugs and crap out of it.. can only help..

i have a hayden sever duty clutch on my hotshot..(2886 for dmax) the fins are longer deeper and more of them compared to the OEM and the clutch was 1/4" bigger

for 98-02 is one of these two.. 2842 or 2798

not sure what the difference between the two are..

I had an electric fan, and it wasn't cutting it. I tow with it.

Thanks for the info. That looks like the way to go. I'll order it tomorrow and hopefully get it next week.

OEM usually always best, but that price from the dealer is way to much, i think id find a different dealer to shop with.

usually i agree..
IDK how well cummins fan clutch is..
but experience the hayden responds better than the OEM gm unit did

I just tracked down a cummins water pump and tstat. I'll order the Hayden fan clutch today.

Alright, looks like I'm set. I found the Hayden fan clutch at O'Reilly for $101. I'll have everything together this afternoon.

Thanks for the help guys!

Don't forget to report how you like the Hayden fan clutch!

Well I just finished up everything. I picked a great day to do it too. It was 108 all day, and I'm beat!

The first thing I saw that was different...

The Hayden fan clutch is bigger than the stock fan clutch, or whatever fan clutch was on it. I say whatever clutch was on it, because about 1 1/2 years ago, I had the electric fans removed and the shop put a dodge fan and clutch on. The clutch may have been from a later model truck. The guy told me that he used one he had at the shop.

The Hayden sits about 3/4" closer to the rad. I'm hoping this will help pull more air through the rad.
Here are a few pictures to show the differences

The second thing that was if different was the tstat. It had a 180 in it, and the stant I bought is a 190. Not sure if that's a big deal or not. They were pretty much identical.

The old water pump was in good shape, but I replaced it anyway. Note the weep hole in the new pump is different than the old pump.

I flushed the block and added new Copland while I was at it.
I used distilled water and straight coolant at a 3:1 mixture.

I'm heading out for some errands later, so I'll report back on how it runs tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks again to everybody who hwelped with advice.

I ran around for a couple hours today in 20-75mph traffic. Most of the time was over 40mph. The ect didn't move from 190.

Here's a pic of the trans temp and outside temp.

Trans seems a bit hot. I'll be out again in stop and go traffic. I'll check to see if the ect moves off 190.

if the ECT is sitting at 190* and you have a 190* t-stat.. i would say things are work right...

i would think tranny would run little warmer in stop n go then cruiseing down the freeway

the pictures comparing the hayden to oem is vary similar to the comparison that i had with mine

So far, everything seems to be working well after the changes.

Re the trans temp:
I realized last night that the stock trans cooler was replaced with a smaller aftermarket cooler. I am sourcing a larger cooler now, so that should help w the trans temp.

I started a other thread in this section on the trans cooler.

Thanks again for your help.
