So Ive been running into snags left and right with the motor build so Im trying to get this sucker done!

Well, my newest quandry is should I port my head? All in all it would cost me around 1500 to get the head ported and the new intake built. Well as much as I realy want to do it, I just dont have the money for it. But i will be puting in the low compression pistons and the big cam. But before i make a decision, how much is this going to hurt me? I know the purpose of the pistons and cam is to get more air into the motor, and with out a port job, it doesnt help much. But I already have the pistons and cam paid for and waiting to go in so i dont want to just leave them out.

My thinking on this is......I build th block now and the entire rotating assembly so I can get the truck up and running. So over the sumer ill get either another head or just take off my head during a down week when I have everything ready to go. I can get the head ported and back on the truck in about a week and a helf, so I wont be down too long and I cna then reap the benifits of the port job later.

Im only worried that my truck is going to run hot, or just run like a turd with out the port jub and the pistons and cam. Am I right? Remember, Im not trying to set the world on fire, just have a nice running truck!

I have a local shop that is doing everything for me, from boreing the motor to porting the head. They are a very good shop and have some of the best prices I have ever seen. Plus they do quite a few big name shops machine work.....but Im not at liberty to say who ;)

I want to prt the head, and it will get done this year. its just with money being tight, and Im with out a truck, i need to get the motor running. but i just want to get all the internals done while its done to a bare block. Its not hard to yank a head or bolt on a pump. So i would rather have the rotating assmebly done now, then have to pull the motor completly apart later to get the pistons in. I can live with out a ported head for now, but If i had the money it would DEF. be getting done as we speak!

Why dont u worry about getting the motor back together 1st off considering all the BS that u have encountered. $.02

This would be a perfect test then. Put it back together and run it. Change as little as possible. Then when your ready do the head and intake you could see what kind temp differences you see.. Your brilliant!!!

Good thats what Ive been looking to hear. And yes Ill keep accurate temps of on road, and pulling EGT's, Boost, and about everything else.

I realy dont think it will hurt me that bad, but Im just getting antsy to get the truck up and running.....I miss the smell of diesel in the morning!!!!!!!

Don't feel bad my truck has been without the head since before christmas and I have so many new goodies and can't even try them out it sucks but I am just gonna wait cause I am gettin a custom manifold made and I am then gonna do the portin my self
