Traction bars - adjusting them ???

Hey Guys, I am making some traction bars for my truck and I am not sure which way I need to pre load them, adjust them shorter or lengthen them?
Which way do you guys with bars pre load them?

Lengthen. But as soon as the suspension moves it won't matter a whole lot, unless you preload them unbelievably hard.

Like said lengthen. Never thought it mattered much but when i swapped to a manual i got a slight bounce off the line and i had then slightly snug shorter went slightly snug lengthened and went away.
