Here's what the lab results are from my 2nd run of Valvoline 5w-40 full synthetic. The engine was rebuilt about 22k miles ago and I used Rotella dino for the first 3 oil changes.

Riggz - I only have one UOA w/ Valvoline 5W-40 PBE. I am almost to the point of doing my third oil change with it (second UOA).

I got a few numbers that confuse me:
My Boron was 68, yours was 127.
My Magnesium was 769, yours was 28.
My Calcium was 2041, yours was 3751.

These are different, but not quite as much as the above:
My Phosphorous was 1113, yours was 1452.
My Zinc was 1287, yours was 1714.

I wonder why the differences??

43k miles on the truck at the time of taking the sample. The OCI was 3.8K

hmmmm no clue. id run another one and see what comes up. im still pretty ignorant when it comes to these reports but i'd rather have them done now then try to guess later.

The are more additives in the oil and wear is down so the new oil seems to be working great $.02

Yup - I agree. I just changed my oil - will get the second analysis w/ PBE by mid next week.

My numbers on this UOA are beginning to match yours more closely now. I would guess that the differences on Boron, Calcium, Magnesium were due to the fact that I was changing brands of oils and the residual 3-4 quarts of the Schaeffer was the reason for the differences.

that could be it. i wonder why the molybdenum is climbing? is it harmful or just something that's in synthetic oil?

Molybdenum is an additive in SOME oils. It is pretty high in the Schaeffer 9000 oil (i had an analysis run of the virgin oil). Some say that molybdenum is not all that compatible with some bearing materials. That is why I changed to the VPBE - because I saw my lead numbers start to climb. After much research, I have come to believe that there is some type of a "lead compound" additive in the Schaeffer oil. I liked the Schaeffer, but I have heard so much about the VPBE, I thought I would try it. I do like the VPBE oil, but who knows if it is worth the price ...............
