Hey guys,

I have a built 12v, just got it done.

Its winter time here and when the second turbo lites and its a bit wet out...

Needless to say, its alot of motor, Especially for me being 19.:hehe:

I'm looking for some insight into possibly "detuning it" over the winter months.

I dont want to change turbos or injectors but im wondering about having an external gate set up between the manifold and top turbo going right into the downpipe, bypassing the s480? Could i set it to a low drive pressure number to keep that 480 from spooling up on me?

Im excited for the summer time, running it in 4wd and getting some harder hooking tires, but in the mean time i want to be safe and not get caught in a bad situation.

Thanks for any help.

Could you not just slide the plate back to limit fuel? My truck is already slow so i don't have to worry about detuning, but if I did that is where I'd start.

Uh just don't get on it.

I typed that on my X.

Easier said than done.

Its a little notchy in the fueling department currently, and sometimes when im not expecting to get on it, it spools.

well if you dont want to remove anything, not tryin to repeat everyone but i think you should just be easy on it

ya just disconnect the afc air pressure supply.. or put a valve in it anyway..

Put an extra return spring on the throttle, and pull the plate back. Or learn some foot control. Unless you're running a 13mm pump, you should have no problem controlling the throttle.

tighten up your afc spring....it will make it take longer to spool, cut the preboost fuel back a hair too

that will be your quickest and most simple way of hindering the turbo from lighting

not real sure how an s480 lighting up just sneaks up on you though.....

I think he is being quite responsible by asking. I mean sure we are here to build our trucks using the vast amount of knowledge but we are here to help with anything no?

At 19 the last thing I would have done is ask how to de-tune my truck so ya...

OP, there are some really good suggestions as to do what you need, good luck.

anyone with a 700+ horse vehicle should be confident and capable enough of handling it's driving dynamics in any environment they might possibly be driving in - not to mention have enough knowledge to know whether or not it can be turned down. If the weather is to blame, well then take it easy.

Honestly, we all know a 12V with a 64/480 setup doesnt spool like a stocker... if you're having traction problems there you're on the go-pedal too hard for too long.

hey man im 17 soon to be 18 i was the same way when i got my truck having it tuned up a bit it look me a few months till i calmed down but every now and then my foot gets heavy

Im going with everyone else here and say just going to have to learn how to let up on the go petal.

Like I said...don't get on it.

It's that simple. Keep your foot out of it. You can bring it up in the RPM to where your second turbo lights and when you approach it...slowly ramp up the RPM.

Sorry to the guys that have an issue with me asking such an absurd question.

Thanks for everyone that helped, probably just going to put a valet switch in, I have never driven a truck with so much power and still haven't gotten used to the power or throttle after my swap, and its the winter time. I guess i just never really thought tuning the AFC and the air line could cut fuel so substantially, so it never crossed my mind.

I figured I needed to do something more drastic than that.

Like I said, Im sure I will be fine after i get some time behind the wheel in the summer time and can actually learn the truck without driving in a blizzard with frozen Michelin tires.

I'm just trying to not be the typical 19 year old jackass with a tapout shirt that cant control his truck.
