Where are the best places to lose weight?

Hi all. I have a '94 Short Bed Regular Cab 2wd truck. It is a 2500.

What are the best/most common areas to lose weight?

My truck is a pig, and needs to go on a diet.

Engine bay is mostly stripped down to the necessities.

What are the common things?

Fiberglass body panels of course, but aside from that, is there metal to be cut out in a lot of places?

Replace rear-end with something lighter? (Currently has Dana 80)

All of the wiring has been stripped basically already.

Also, it should be noted, that I want the truck to remain fully streetable. It already has no heater, and I am keeping power steering, but I want to ensure it stays streetable aside from that.

Oh, and as far as weight savings the bed and interior would cut some lbs quick.
 
I'd give it a bath first, all that dirt and mud in your engine bay is heavy!:soap: That extra Turbo is heavy also.

Is there a build thread somewhere on this thing? That engine is the sexiest thing I have seen under a hood...EVER.

Thanks for the compliment. There is no current build thread on this thing... just making progress as time permits!

Thanks! There's not much more to post yet - stay tuned! We're going to do the 4" charge piping, blowoff valve, hardline oil feed lines for the turbos, radiator overflow, and then wire in a full datalogging setup and keep everything clean and hidden.

I am interested in the thermostat housing and lower radiator outlet on the engine...I have been looking for an option to run AN hoses but haven't found any. And you said this will stay streetable so there has to be an alternator mount....Watching closely....:bow:

Wow, that looks so nice! No experience to draw from, but if not hauling anything, the entire bed could go, build a lightweight aluminum tube frame to hang fiberglass bed sides. Possibly back half the frame as well. Anything to be done with the front suspension, such as tubular components over the factory stuff?

I haul the slicks, tools, etc all around to the different tracks I race at... I drive to the tracks, swap to slicks, race, swap back to street tires, and drive home...

My biggest issue with losing the bed, is the truck won't look "street" anymore.. it will look like a hacked up racetruck :(

build a sheet metal bed....still be a big improvement over stock weight....or gut the bed and make a flat cover. This seems to be pretty standard practice for a lot of 2WD guys.
