So the truck is back together, went with o-rings and .020 hg and it has a problem running any timing. Used to run Smarty on the even settings and the tst for timing. Took the tst off because it was too much with my injectors and going to have it updated to the adjustable timing version.
Started with 1 on the Smarty and way too much timing, so I backed it off. Had to go to 4 on the timing adjustment to get it to not rattle but I can run 3 with a little rattle right before the turbo lights.
I was thinking that maybe it is spraying out of the bowl since the head is higher now without changing the washers on the injectors but was told there was no need to.
I need to get the timing back because now it is running warmer with the head ported and a cam than it used to stock, unless my problem is elsewhere and I'm not finding it yet.

8x.010 It doesn't sound like the one I heard Triton post up but may be a variation??

Mine rattles also until it builds boost. But I think it is normal if you have big injectors. I leave my truck on stock timing. BTW I'm running a .010 over marine 12 valve gasket.

Yeah it never did it before is what gets me and I used to run the TST timing which is way more aggressive than the Smarty #3 timing.

A stock 12 or 24 valve gasket is already about .015 thicker than a stock mls + your .020 over. You just pulled the nozzle .035 out of the bowl minus what ever you decked the head.Injector placement on a cr is important to get right or you will have tuning issues.Have built many cr and if they are right you will have no rattle. There are many things brought over from 12v builds that do not work on a cr.

I don't know much about over valved engines, but can you play with injector washer thickness to get it back close to where it should be?

Yeah, didn't think about that, duh. So I'm stuck with the injector being higher and no way to fix it besides getting new nozzles. This gasket wasn't a well thought out choice.

One of about a million to never o-ring a CR , the MLM factory gasket is far better at holding power then a o-ringed older style gasket combination.

Hopefully this is a 04 ½ 600 , with the bigger piston bowls , If you will use the earlier 03 early 04 tips with a tighter spray angle then this will fix your problem. If you have the early 04 then you will need a tighter tip yet.
Brady at indrustrial Injection has new Bosch tips in many spray angles , and this should help

watch this video and when you see me warming up, you will see big timing rattle, the switch is the DP fuel box,
once it wormed up , it got a little better

That thing sounds horrible when starting up...... Sounds like you got a bunch of midgets with jack-hammers in there. LOL

Cutting the pistons can give you the same result, wider quench area, letting more fuel in on advanced injection.

Which explains why an 06 CTD with the same .020 o-ringed headgasket doesn't have the problems your having.

It is an early 04 with the 555. When I say rattle I don't mean like that though! I guess I'll just run with what I have for now, just find some more air to cool it back down. If it blows up then it blows up, I'll go back with the right combo and a light wallet.

How much did they take off of the cylinder head and the block?

And Greg is that rattle coming from the Banks PDA on the dash? Guys you can knock Greg all you want but I don't think it will affect him one bit. And I don't know how he does it, but he always gets the press.
