1" suspension travel rule...

I think the main reason why the insurance and registration rule is there is so that maybe it would help reduce the amount of trailer queen, track only, would melt down with in a half mile, non streetable trucks in the more "street" classes (workstock/2.5/2.6). My puller is my daily driver, so I have to have tags and insurance anyway, but if it was a track only truck, then I see the point of why it should be done away with. No need to spend more useless money on just a play toy.

Travel rules came about from pulling on springs with NO stops. They reached a compromise, you were still pulling on a working suspension but weren't breaking your springs.

Our local gasser trash class just got an education on wording a few weeks ago. Their rule says an 1"of CLEARANCE!!! Nothing about travel, now is there? LMAO!!
Should have heard the gasser clowns Cry, cry, crying!!!! when somebody took advantage of the wording.

But there is a way around the scheid rule and still run a bolt in solid block..........

Hello Kettle.....I'm pot......

Do you condone this with other associations but not yours Gene? Just asking, cause me and you have already had this conversation about that statement with your 2.6 rules. I found gray areas in the rules and was going to use them to my advantage but you told me the truck would be illegal, though none of the stuff was specifically stated in the rules......I'm not trying to pick a fight with you Gene but clarification would be nice.....Are you for or against using gray areas to build a truck?

There's always a way around a rule.

Better ask before you build the truck or you may just be illegal and not know it til you show up for the pull.........:rules:

There are gray areas that are supposed to be taken advantage of, to further the sport.

The areas you were trying to take advantage of, were not so gray, and I pointed them out to you.
You were trying to build a Mod class puller for the 2.6 class.

Painting your entire truck gray and declaring it a gray area, isn't going to fly, logan!!!!!:hehe::hehe::hehe:

And lets not forget the greatest gray area of all- "Tech officials decision is final."

there's always away around a rule? That sounds like cheating :hehe:

You guys better watch out if you start changing these rules LYNN is gonna get better traction and it will be all over from there :hehe:

logansport indiana made you 2 years ago bring vehicle regisration and insurance card when signed up

Actually matching it to the VIN during tech would have made that effective. How many tow vehicles were signed up I wonder?

Back to the 1" rule. I like it.

Just kidding - agreed, stupid rule. Kill it.

In Full Pull Productions St. Diesel class, we must have 2" travel with no FHW.
Some of the better Dodges have almost given up. It has hurt the level of competition, IMHO.

As an old saying I learned from some of the people that used to pull in the gas classes, "It aint cheatin', its how you read the rules!" or even more blatant, "It aint cheatin' until you get caught!"

There are gray areas that are supposed to be taken advantage of, to further the sport.

Further the sport? I thought rules were in place to limit the sport? Every rule written seems to be to limit something. Gray areas allow some to get by with stuff, and others not. It then becomes an area that more rules are written for.

I did.....

My ideas werent listed in the rules anywhere.....So I figured it must of been legal......

That sometimes makes me wonder about some of the pulls I've been too.........And part of the reason I've never went back to those pulls.......

I re read your questions from a few weeks back, Logan. They weren't new questions, by any means. 1/2 of them I told you could do- the other half, I told you could not, the same as I have told others who asked the same question before you.

The proper way to exploit a gray area, is to do it cleanly and quietly.Of course you run the risk of a protest and a DQ.

And costing the person that built the truck alot of time and money.....

A new rule i saw at one of the fairs this year is
"The suspension must have one inch of travel with the stops removed"

logansport indiana made you 2 years ago bring vehicle regisration and insurance card when signed up

The fairs do that a lot around here...

around here we have a 1" of travel rule. so I built my bump stops to sit on the top of the axle. I have no suspension up travel but I can lift the truck body up and the factory suspension will drop down 1". hooked to the sled my truck will not drop any but it has passed tech many times even the 1" of travel rule.

Come on. Your saying since the rules don't say which direction the suspension must travel 1" you can block solid. With this mentality there going to have to have lawyers draw up the rules to make the wording perfect. :bang

yep does not state and I use that to the letter in my diesel puller and a big block puller I am helping with. Thanks

And?
If you take it upon yourself to exploit a gray area, and it turns out NOT to be a gray area, and it cost you time and money, we should feel sorry for you?
What about the 25 other guys that are legal but are getting beat by the cheater cause the tech felt sorry for him spending time and money?

Can you hear it now?
"Tech:"Guys, Logan is illegal, but he spent a lot of time and money, trying to find an advantage, so we are going to let him hook anyway."

Right.

You have to look past your own hoods, if you care at all about the sport.

Maybe everybody needs to get together at these 1" rule pulls, block the suspensions up on them, then at the drivers meeting tell the techs everybody has the suspensions blocked and they won't pull with a 1" travel. They would probably be ok with it then, because I doubt they would turn away a whole class of trucks over one stupid rule if everybody agree's to the opisit as far as something small like that goes. Now don't get me wrong, I know Saftey rules wouldn't go through like that and probably major stuff like NO2, welded rear suspensions, bigger turbo's, ect...wouldn't go through either, but little stuff such as the 1" travel, water injection, ect... would probably have a chance of getting changed.
