12 valve dyno run 525/1077

not trying to hijack the thread but where do you think im setting?
TIA

50cc seems a little steep, you gain 1mm rack travel by grinding 1/8th inch off the end of the AFC foot. You can still leave the AFC on for tuning. just make sure to move the AFC towards the front of the truck.

ill be honest im just going for the 500 and everything else just makes it sweeter. thanks

around 200hp because you Hijacked his thread :shake:

if you don't modify the AFC for more travel, then yes, it can hold you back, but if you modify it, it won't limit flow

Completely agree with Forrest on this one, you NEED to put the AFC back on and start tuning, taking it off is just a cheap easy way to get a little bit of extra fuel out of it but if you know how to tune and mod your AFC then you open a completely different door also what RPM did you stop at?

All of the above, your pyro will show you the difference on the low end.

Yeah I already ground the front to a #100 profile (which is great for towing in valet) but it does drop a little too much fuel on the bottom end when I go WOT so my turbo spools a little slower than it should. Just a little AFC work and timing adjustments will cure that I am sure :)

If i'm thinking right (please correct me if i'm wrong) 30psi of shop air is a good place to set your afc at for full travel. Also whats the best plate profile something with like a 1/4 slope on the bottom. And I also just got my bigger turbo and like an idiot I gutted my afc:doh: So i'm hoping that will help my spool up.

The funny thing is we really dont have a problem with spoolup. That turbo is a sweet unit. What do you consider cleaner dv's? On my 215 pump in my 98, we have been using it as a tow rig so i took the full cuts out and swapped in 191's. This deffinantly made it cleaner on the street but it still smokes abunch and that is with the afc and plate set by a pump shop on the bench. Plus, if im giving it hell now, over 3600 it starts popping which i assume needs the full cuts back in to flow more fuel.

Forrest, i watched the video of your dyno and looks like the truck runs good, but my only question is it cleaned up because it was not under load. How much would it smoke if you put it on a load down dyno and held it there? Im going to say quit a bit from the amount of smoke while trying to spool it up. I also am not really a fan of inertia dynos because the smaller the turbos the better the numbers because they come on faster. Tim

I would go with the guy at Scheids, they know everything about street trucks right! So lets see, if it is worth 50cc's like they he said is it worth having absolutely no control over your pump, and 27* is way to high for the dyno!

Jim

What is this, follow me around and beat on me. At the dyno the timing was 17*. We have since went to 27* to make better use of the rpms and new injectors when we get them done hopefully soon. If you watch it close you will see that about 3700 rpms the smoke actually cleans up alittle. That is why the guy running the dyno said to try 24-25 degrees timing with bigger injectors to make use of 5k rpms. Tim

on a side note, this truck is not on its way to be a dyno truck. We could care less about a dyno. That was the first time it has been on a dyno and probably the last. We went down there to support a local get together and dyno day so we could be around fellow diesel nuts and have fun on a weekend when there was no truck pulls and thats it. Now if you wnat to compare trucks, lets find some pulls and have fun (keyword fun).

it cleaned up like that on the street too, and it rarely smoked much at all because I never lugged it like I did in that dyno video.

I'd put some 181's in it

Thanks Forrest, we will give that a try. Of course you had to pick ones we dont have. I think i have about all of them but 181's. Tim

heck, try the 191's... anything but the full cuts IMO! :o

I think 191's would be better too, full cuts are good for smoke, stack flames or high end pumps that need the relief.

I.R. I'm no sled puller but I have yet to see a reason for not having a properly modified, tuned and working AFC on a truck.
