I have a 2000lb stand from harbor freight (surprisingly, it's really sturdy) and I didn't have to do any modifications to bolt the block on the stand sideways.
Doubt that helps you, but did you try mounting it on there yet?
The center of gravity sucks- no chance in hell of rotating it with a bar.
But it sure does make me feel alot better with a fully dressed motor on a stand.
I also had a stand from harbor freight. I have been using it for two years from block to fully dressed no problems. If you get rid of adapter spacers that are supplied with the stand and just use the plate with the slotted holes it will bolt up to the block in the trans adapter holes.
I used my cheapy 1200# stand. Had to drill two holes in the engine plate. It is a little off center, but it works. Can't go all the way around with the front cover on
I just egged out the slot some and used the motor mount bolts. And had to notch the upright support a lil to spin it. I was balance pretty well. I could spin it my self with a lil enuff and then drop the pin it to hold it.
I'll try to load a pic later, It's not letting me do it now.
Ill take some pictures when I get home. My motor is on the stand and is mounted like you want to mount yours. I just took the same diameter and thickness pipe and some plate steel that I had lying around and used the motor mount as the template for the motor mount holes.
I have the 2000# stand from harbor freight. I made a sleelt plate that bolt to the block, then to the stand. It is offset just enough to perfectly balance the shortblock. I never intended to put the head on while on the stand.
Red Stroke,
You can borrow it if you need one. I wont need it for a few months.
We have 2 of the one from Harbor freight also have a 24v mounted on the side and a 12v from the rear bothe using the part that came with the stands.
