150 sticks and hx35

ran 7x.010s on a hy35 with no egt or smoke problems. this was also without a wire tap box. now with the tst involved it only lasted 2 weeks.
 
well let me just say this, if you gonna do it, run your edge on low or off. i put 7x.011s in my truck this summer, with edge on 5x5 (drag comp box) and the injecotrs, by the time i was at the middle of 3rd gear my pyro was buried at 1600 deg and climbing im sure. Way too much fuel to feel much added power out of truck. Turbo is FAR too small for all the power, all it creates is tons of smoke and tons of heat. All the heat caused my head gasket to fail and was more money spent on truck. I run my edge on 4x1. Low enough to keep the exhaust at a light haze or clear...unless i romp on it off a stop light. With edge off its smokier than on 4x1. EGTs will still hit over 1400 deg with injectors alone and edge off.



If you spend the money for the injectors....spend the money for a set of head studs and a turbo too. Or else be prepared for unexpected issues and break downs.

dont say i didnt warn you from first had experience!
 
I would just buy one set of injecters, and dont use ur box for fueling unless u want to live on the edge!

My 150's and 351vgt does great together.

U could up grade ur stock charger like u said to a 40mm and say a 18.5cm housing or a 14cm gated housing later on and u would have a pretty good set up to dd,tow,play.

I ran a hybrid 40'd with a 16 none gated housing on my old 12v and it would build 45ish or so psi! Ran it probley 30k like that towing racing on the streets and lots of 60mph kick downs.

Ran the stock 35 that came out on the 97's to 50+ psi for probley 10-15k miles and didnt give it any slack and didnt have to rebuild it when i upgraded it to the 40.

Just tork the head to 135 or maybe a litte more if u want to find a few new head bolts! Just my 2 cents.
 
I can't help it but the two above ideas suck...
The 18.5 exhaust housing is like putting a bandaid on it. It's gonna be slow to spool and inefficient. Your head gasket blew most likely because of the excessive drive pressure from over speeding that charger.

Tinkertoy... Why would you suggest a 40mm?!

The charger that is on that truck now is a 35 with a 18.5 hotside.

It doesnt fill choked up on topend with the bigger housing, the 12v that its on is my dads truck now. And I first was going to put a hybrid with a 14 hotside with some porting done for better flow and a 4 inch flange but its got the 35 on it for now!

It doesnt fill choked up on topend with the bigger housing, the 12v that its on is my dads truck now. And I first was going to put a hybrid with a 14 hotside with some porting done for better flow and a 4 inch flange but its got the 35 on it for now!

But i would just get the 150's and be done with it, the 150's that i have and a SO pump with the fuel box turned off and no timing box. It doesnt smoke any what so ever on top end or anywhere, but i do have a 351 unstead of a 35.

If u think u will up grade ur charger later on because u more than likely will if ur like most people on here, u will be looking for more on down the road!

got any pics of your vgt build? what did all the parts cost minus the turbo? i heard the vgt's were really nice on the 2nd gens

I would have to figure a parts price up but it would be better to do that after i get a little shut eye, celibrated the new year a little to much tonight!lol

I love my ve charger would like to try a 431 and custom compressor wheel one day or use 2-351's in a tripple set up. But for know i love this 351 as a single and i think it will tow nice also.

I will try to get pic's soon as i can of the set up and a price list that i have in the set up.

ok thanks. i heard the act like compounds and make good power. i can get a vgt for 400. is that a decent deal?
 
imo, i would look for something else. they have a tendency to surge frequently.

thats what i have read but some people say they dont have problems with them either. they might be running automatics too.
 
Iv never had a compound set but the ve's spool crazy fast if u have everything working together! If ur looking for a all around charger that u can race rice rockets at stop lights or dd, tow and have a little fun with u will be happy with one.

I love mine, and when u go to the store u can make it sound like a jet getting ready to take off and turn everyones heads if u want!lol

As for the 400 bucks for one, if it has low mile on it, it maybe a good deal because it seems to me they are selling for more than when i bought mine.

But if u think the charger isnt going anywhere u could keep and eye on ebay thats where i picked mine up at.

Im going to go out and try to get some more pic's before it gets dark but iv never had any luck with putting them on here. If u can send me a PM and ur email ill send u the pic'c and a parts list that i have in the set up.
 
I just installed some CPP 100hp sticks and I'm already looking for an upgraded turbo. EGTs get toasty when towing!
