2000 Excursion 2006 5.9 and 48RE

I put a 05 5.9 and 48re into my 02 f250 and did all the wiring myself. You are on the right track with the trans control but if I can help with any other questions you may have please ask. There is an other bloke who done it with a good write up, I can't work put how post a link but if you google it you may find it {diesel truck resource.com ford excursusion cummins swap [hpcr & 48re]} I got heaps of info out of this that may help you.

HERE is that link. There is a mass of good information on that thread! leeso, I'm working in the wiring stages of my 06 CR swap. Looking for some details/insight/help on the wiring and I cannot PM or email yet.

fan / firewall clearance.

I'm finally getting back to the excursion after about a month of hardly working on it. It seems like I don't have much clearance at all at the rad or at the firewall. If the pics show up you can see that I have less than an inch to the crimp on the rad tank. and at the back of the engine I can get my fingers slid inbetween the valve cover and the insulation about to the second knuckle without getting crazy and that's about it. My mounts are from diesel conversion specialists and they seem to have the motor sitting higher than it needs to. Did I make a bad choice on supplier for my motor mounts? Or is this typical for a CR?

Since I was in the shop taking pictures, and this is the diesel conversion section of the forum, I figured I'd include a picture of my other current conversion project. We removed the cat 3412 and put in a hot rodded series 60 Detroit.

I'm getting pretty close on the excursion swap. I ended making my my own motor mounts. I am much happier with the overall fit now. I know pictures would be nice but i really hate to stop and take pictures when I get working on something.

I learned something tonight that I thought might be helpful. The range sensor on the 48re gets its ground for the P/N circuit through the plunger. There are two spots on the "rooster comb" with contacts for the plunger. I was very confused how they got the ground for the P/N circuit until I took my sensor apart and then dropped the pan.

I got the sensor bushing kit from diesel conversion specialists. does anyone know where is best to but the oil pressure switch?
Thanks

I had the truck out for a short drive today. It seems the trans is stuck in 3rd. anyone have an idea what would cause that? i'm going to go look at wiring diagrams to see if i missed something

well i got the trans to work and had about 2 hours of road time. it's not done, there are some odds and ends to take care of yet but nothing major.

It's nice to see my old build thread is still of use. When I did that swap you just couldn't find any information on it all.

the truck runs good. something doesn't seem quite right though. It smokes white when you have to crank it for a while and when running it has that unburnt fuel smell. I started a thread about it.

nice looking Excursion...that looks like a huge tub grinder in those pics...i looked at destroked and ford cummins for engine mounts looked kinda cheesy build your own best way to go..

back when I started this thread there was another thread where someone had mentioned a CAN interface they were going to try to use to communicate with the 06 cummins ecm through the can bus.

The truck is running great other than what i think is a bad torque converter. The truck definately isn't finished but it is perfectly drivable.I still need to get a tach adapter, I have new springs to put on, I need to tidy up some of my wiring and figure out a power steering leak that has been a major pain. The front driveshaft needs shortened and the rear slip yoke has some slop. but the thing is great. I can't wait to get a new torque converter and start playing with efi live.

Is that the 16 pin plug under the dash?
Or is that where it tries to communicate with the other ecms?

Yer that was too hard. I just installed a second OBD 11 plug so I could run my tuner and diagnostic tool. Maybe ask GOT TOURQUE I think he has looked into it.

Video

I have had a couple people asking me for video of the truck running. This weekend I built a dual battery mount and finally did some video.
