I finally took my truck for a drive for the first time last night. I built the trans myself with a dtt trans kit, dtt shift kit, dpc converter, billet input, 1 billet servo and 1 accumulator. It has reverse, 1st gear, but when it shifts to second it feels as if you shifted to reverse or like it tries going into 2 gears at the same time which leads to the tires wanting to lock up instantly. Anyone have any ideas?

Possibly front clutch and kickdown band at the same time, or maybe the reverse band is always engageged? Rear sprag? Pull the trans relay and see if u have 3rd gear.

i was wondering if maybe the front band is always applied so it starts in 2nd and when it tries to shift to 3rd it binds? I will try the trans relay

Well if ur starting in second when it shifts to 3rd then yes I would look at the 2ndgear band. How did. U adjust it? U had said u had first and shifting too second. Do u even have first?

ok i went and pulled the relay. It locks up in d or manual 2nd, but i have first. I am very sure i have first gear because at 25 mph its like 2500 rpm. I was told to set both bands at 2 turns out. I wasnt sure before what gear i was starting out in because i only drove a block and it was 3 am so i didnt give much throttle.

Dam man sorry for your issues, I bet you can snatch that trans out in under 45 min now,,,

tested psi in rear band port:
manual 1= 90 psi
manual 2= 0 psi
manual 3 (no trans relay)= 0 psi
Reverse= 220-230 psi

i see the factory spec is 3 turns for the rear band. If i set it 2 turns think that could be the cause?

Well i readjusted the rear band to 3 turns and now i have gears. But i do not have overdrive and the whole trans just doesnt seem to shift right. I dont really feel a first to second shift at all. Checked pressure at accumulator port and its 90 psi in gear at idle...

If I understand you, the tires lock when it shifts to 2nd?

2 trans I've rebuilt have done the same thing. I was told something to do with parts not getting oil right away. Both times it went away after about 10 seconds of driving in reverse.

When i adjusted my rear band it fixed the tires locking issue. I also adjusted my line pressure allen in 5 turns which took the psi to 78 at idle and now i can feel all shifts which are firm and i also have overdrive now. Hopefully thats the last of my issues with it :Cheer:

I had 165 at idle when I had the pressure turned too high. My trans now has 120 at idle and it shifts great!
