3.0 Final Drive Ratio

hmmm... i have been running 11.152 and 12.464. Now looking to put a rockwell in the truck and use the stock transmission and transfer case and keep the final about the same.

good question, i would like to keep my final in the 12.5 to 13 range. But i don't think there is no way i can do it and keep my stock transmission. Anybody ever tried welding rockwell tubes on a dana 80 punkin and using rockwell axles?

All the Rockwells I have seen have square tubes and all the Dana 80's I have seen have round ones. I learned in kindergarten that round parts don't fit in square holes.

ya well wonder if you could hollow out a dana 80 tube to fix the rockwell axle or am i going to have to find another axle tube?

explain more about this? I am putting a rockwell in my truck now to run itpa, but i wlaso might run stock tranny and t-case for now, would i run into issues? How do yyou figure the final dive?

Maybe try machining the rockwell outer spindle down and welding them to the d-80. Then ya can run rockwell axles... Oh yeah have to weld the side gears of the rockwell in the d-80 carrier. How much bigger is the rockwell axles then a 37 spline d-80 axle??? It may come down to ring gear size???

the weak link in the d80 after the 37 spline axles are installed is the ring and pinion so you would be gaining nothing by adding stronger axles and using the d80 center section imho

I would either put a full spool and 37 spline axles in the 80 or upgrade to a rockwell

I agree!

axles are one of the stronger parts of the dana 80 if you have the good 37 splines and the full spool, the pumpkin is what needs to be changed and if you are going to keep something d 80 keep the tubes and axles

I still have the blue truck, i'm trying to avoid spending big money on the driveline and put it in the motor. I was going to put a full spool splined for the rockwell axles, a girdle to keep everything in place, and rockwell axles.

All i know is the blackcrow express broke an axle every pull, and he was making the kind of power i plan on makin next year.

Problem is there is not enough material on the spindles to take out to get a larger axle in than the 1.625" 37 splines. If you cut the spindles off and go to a different hub you could put larger axles in it.
