That is bothering me. It is time for me to swap gears from the 3.54's I got now. I got to get a new carrier for sure. This is my dedicated hauler with
315's on it. I have needed to do the swap for a while now but now I NEED to swap. I got to rely on the thoughts out there because I have never had a truck with 4.10's so give me your thoughts guys. Also, This is why I need the extra grunt.

I had 4.10's in my 01 6spd and it would pull the guts out of anything. It was screaming going down the highway at 80 mph, but it never fell off on any hills. How much you pulling?

The trailer pictured weighs in at 11,000 with another 10,000 in the trailer roughly. The thing is like you said I don't want it to lay down on the hills too much and I am not breaking any speed records. If it will do 70 loaded down without sweating to much than I am happy.

with a trailer over 20k, it's going to be working regardless.. I wouldn't go any lower then 4.10's with 35's if I wanted to do freeway speeds.

I have 4:10 with 315s and tow heavier tham that on a regular basis. It's a great combo for me. I never go over 55 with heavy loads thoughg so I wouldn't be able to comment on higher speeds.

Gear it so your pulling in direct.

I like that Idea, it take much of the load off the transmission and gives the driver a extra gear for down hills and flat lands. Lets see with 35 inch tires 3.55 gears and the transmission in direct that would be 2350 rpm at 70 mph, that should just about put the engine on top of the power band.

If you're wanting to tow in OD, I'd go with the 4.30's
Me personally, I'd go to 3.73's and tow in direct. That's just me talkin', it's really up to you, just my $.02 on the subject.

my dodge i sold had 4.10 with an auto, thats really all the gear your ever going to need. i really dotn think your going to like 4.30 gears man thats way low. your top speed would be like 70 running 3 grand i bet.

My plan was to tow in OD and that is why I was thinking about the 4.30's. I thought the 4.30's would hold the speed well in OD.

I had not given much thought to this BUT I may just try it empty and see what happens. Thanks for the idea Zstroken. Thanks for the inputs guys.

I've had 3.54's with 35's and 4.10's with 35's. I will never go back to 3.54's if I want the truck to tow any kind of decent load. There is a huge difference between the two. The truck didn't like the 3.54's at all.

If I could do it over, i'd run 3.73's.. But I wouldn't ever tow over 12 or 14k. If I did more then that, i'd keep the 4.10's. I still see no need to run 4.30's.
