4.10's

Google klenger dot net and look for his gear speed calculator spread sheet. You can enter tire size and gear ratio and see what each gear is doing at different RPMs. Awesome spreadsheet. I saved and play with it all the time. If you unprotect it you can really have fun.

My EGT's dropped a considerable amount when I went to 4.10's. I damn near went to 37's just to make the 4.10's work perfect. But the mileage would still suffer, plus I use the truck too much. So I'm going back down to 33's and swapping gears again to get a more usable truck back.

4.10s would be perfect for you

I'm starting to be swayed

I didn't even think about EGT's, but yeah, it would decrease load on the engine. Now I'm really starting to be swayed towards 4.10

I get better milage in my dually with 4:10 than my dually with 3:55

lol, thats kinda funny. You don't hear that very often.

I think its because the one with 3:55 is under a "load" more often due to the higher gear

Yeah, I'm starting to think going to 4.10's might increase my mileage a hair on the highway. Just because they would relieve so much stress on the motor.

I dont think the 4.10s are going to hurt him at all. I swapped out a NV4500 for an early G56 a few years ago. My milage didnt change on the interstate at all even with a difference in OD gears. Just for comparison, the shorter OD in my G56 would be about the same as going to a 3.91 rear ratio. I run up the interstate at 2200 RPM every day and have been averaging 18.5 MPG the last few tanks with my trucks highest MPG 20.25 MPG about 5 tanks ago with 1300lbs in the bed. Stock the best MPG was only 19.4 on the interstate. I have had it for 6 years now. My dads 24v with 4.10s is usually around 19.5 MPG.

i did the 355 to 410..wish i hadnt...even tho i do alot of heavy towing..25k gross...i still think i was better off with the 355. i will eventually swap back even tho i run 35's. rpms are 2 high to get any decent mileage and im willing to bet they hurt the trucks performance thru the mechanical advantage of the gearing not working the engine hard enough to go faster

i had a friend with a nv5600 and a splitter unit, kinda like an overdrive unit, on the back of the 5600... it would change his gear ratio from 3:55 to 4:10... best of both worlds man! look into that... he hauled loads cross country with it, and he loved it....

yes they are.... but! consider... once you do have it... you have both the ratios you want... he would use it for heavy loads in the city and highway gears for the interstate etc... just an idea... not saying its the best... but something to consider nonetheless...

Yeah, but I don't think the higher gears would be better on the highway anymore, I think they are actually starting to hinder me with the 37's. If they weren't so damn useful, I'd drop to 33's and stock height, and then a gear vendors would definitely be in the cards.
