4.88 gears $600!?! Cheaper anywhere else?

LOWER GEARS DON'T CAUSE MORE STRAIN ON THE AXLES BUT BIGGER TIRES WILL.

I not sure i agree with that, when ya lower that axle gearing that moves the TQ from the drive shaft forword to the axle shafts x the amount you lowered the gearing. For instance if ya went from 3:54's to 4:56's then you'v put 1.02 times more TQ on the axle shafts... another case in point, i have a little rock buggy with a d60 front and 38" tires and a stock v6 engin. now for the kicker...im breaking d60 front shafts (4 to be exact ) and i have 6:83 r&p in the diff's, if it had say 4:10's in the diff's theirs no way the little v6 would have enough power to break d60 shafts! IMO

IF YOU HAD A LOWER GEARED TRANSFERCASE MATCHED W/ THE 4.10'S TO GIVE YOU THE SAME FINAL DRIVE OR CRAWL RATIO AS WHAT YOU HAVE W/ 6.83'S THEN YOU WOULD HAVE THE POWER TO TURN THEM AND HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS BREAKING AXLES W/ 4.10'S.

WHY ARE YOU SCREAMING???? IT IS SOOO HARD TO READ THIS WAY! :hehe:

Maybe not, cause if i had 4:10's in the diff's and a lower t'case gear then that would bring more parts to the breaking point, ujoints, drive shafts, yokes, output shafts...ect. I have small ujoints (1310) and stock every thing(forward of the axles) and don't break anything else. But is it better to break those things than an axle...??? It's a catch 22! :hehe:

Build it not to break, when you have something acting like a fuse, it typically shock loads the rest of the system.

^^^Yeah, your right! Im using that as an example that lower gears do put more TQ/strain on the axle shafts.
