LOWER GEARS DON'T CAUSE MORE STRAIN ON THE AXLES BUT BIGGER TIRES WILL.
I not sure i agree with that, when ya lower that axle gearing that moves the TQ from the drive shaft forword to the axle shafts x the amount you lowered the gearing. For instance if ya went from 3:54's to 4:56's then you'v put 1.02 times more TQ on the axle shafts... another case in point, i have a little rock buggy with a d60 front and 38" tires and a stock v6 engin. now for the kicker...im breaking d60 front shafts (4 to be exact ) and i have 6:83 r&p in the diff's, if it had say 4:10's in the diff's theirs no way the little v6 would have enough power to break d60 shafts! IMO
