48re Anyone know what this sound could be?

Locked/unlocked or both?

Sound isn't very clear, but its not often you get a continuous grinding, chatter sound out of the internals of a 48re, a broken planetary may make a similar noise but not for long before complete failure, I'd guess a cracked flexplate.

Hard to hear much. Is it a thump or? Could be your flex plate hitting one of the engine adapter bolts.

I know I had the crank bolts come loose on mine. Sounded like a rod was coming out the end at idle. Rev it up to about 2000 and it got quiet.
 
Got it on stands and gonna take tc out and have a look,drained the pan and nothing on magnet :) i need to buy a hoist!!!
 
Did you jack the rear end up first and get it going around 30mph to hear the noise first? Lot easier than going down the road and trying to pin point the location.
 
No but what a great idea! but ryan @ rkl wants me to send it back to him so he can check it all out . Got it on pallet ready to go to him.He's been really great about any issues since he built it.
Wish i would have thought of that before i took it out though. Thanks gibson
