Looking to do some more to my dually. I want to be around 500-550 when its done thanks. I need to keep single turbo for pulling. Id like it to spool pretty fast because I tow up to 14,000lbs and I dont want to have to watch my pyrometer all the time.

which turbine is on your 62? I would upgrade the injectors to a set of extrude honed (like ddp 150's) or a little bigger, and a 71mm turbine if not already! maybe some water meth, should put you right around 500 or a little more

I have the 65 wheel on my truck. I was giving consideration to getting a 62/71/13 or 14.

Best off with hellmann's towing twins, quick spool up and keep your egts way down.

Ive got a smaller 62 then you and made 540hp with 120 hp sticks. My truck tows awesome I took a about 12k out to nebraska and averaged 13 or 14 loaded and 15.5 unloaded with the trailer doing around 70 or 75 and egts stayed around 1000 1150 going up hills. thats a commonrail though.

Twins will put you in a more competitive division right; that is why most people always run a big single?

Twins will put you in the mod class. That means running with the BIG boys, against purpose built pulling trucks.

good luck "towing" with 500-550 hp without twins. don't think that's gonna happen. maybe with fully ported head, cam , spearco, 5" dp, and water meth but that's a big maybe.

I don't think anyone wants to tow 14K with 500+ HP. I think he meant he wants 500-550 for playing with the ability to detune and still use his truck to tow. Doesn't want twins because he likes to sled pull and needs to stay with a single turbo.

Don't let anyone kid you, the stock cooling system on 2nd gen cummins will only keep up with 350-375 HP sustained. You might get away with using 400Hp up a short grade in cool weather but the coolant temp gauge will start to climb quickly!

99 3500 4x4 auto quad cab Quad Adrenaline FASS 150 62/14 and Jammer 4's

Sounds like 400+ hp range already. Stock auto? That might need some help.

Big blue you hit the nail right on the head, thats exactly what I'd like to do. I am in the process of porting a head for the truck and have been thinking about a cam and springs. The truck is getting a thicker aluminum radiator and electric fans to help with cooling a bit same shop making the radiator would also make me an intercooler. If anyone else has anymore ideas I'd like to hear them, thanks.

No the tranny isnt stock. I dont think the tranny could pull 14K in stock form, not for too long anyway.

What brand radiator?

Its a local radiator shop near me he buys a core from an outside supplier and makes the tanks himself, same with the intercooler. Never really discussed a price so I dont know what id be looking at for either piece if i need to go that route.

Be careful using electric fans, I've read that the stock belt driven fan offers more airflow and cooling capacity than two electric fans.

We will see what it does when I get it together. I'm kinda determined to make this setup work. If the fan doesnt need to be switched I wont change it just to say I have electric fans. Thanks for all the great help.

Look into ford taurus fans from 1988-1995.

each 16" fan flows 450cfm and can be had for under $100 each!!

I've yet to hear of a rig towing and staying cool with electric fans....stock or moded. They can't move the air in slow traffic or in town.

FWIW, I tow heavy (gross 22K to 25K) often with equipment or cattle and have 125hp jammer 4's and a II PS62/14. I dyno right at 450 hp (which is shy of what you want) but my egts are at 1050 F flat ground at 75mph and climb into the 1250-1300 range on long hills before the turbo kicks the boost up to around 25 psi. Then it cools down a bit and settles at around 1150-1200 until the hill is over. These jack wads in OK like to put tool booths at the bottom of hills so when you come out with no speed you have a mile hill in front. :D Jerks.

Forgot to mention, I normally tow with the edge set on 2 (tow) and I drive like hell. :D
