I have a 5130 maxum that has a 12 valve cummins non Turbo in it. A 5140 is a 12 valve with a turbo. Could anybody tell me how hard it would be to turbo the 5130 ?
I would imagine first you would need the turbo and exh manifold, and run an oil supply and return line to the turbo. Then you would have to put an AFC on the injection pump and plumb in the boost signal lines. I'm not sure if the governors differ from n/a to turbocharged though.
Don't hold me to this but the 5140 which is the turboed version has oil squirters in the crankcase which sprays oil on the bottom of the pistons to cool the pistons but I am guessing that the non turbo 5130 does not have squirters.
I think they all had the piston squirters. but you can get away without the oil squirters as long as you dont try and make more than 120hp. all the parts you need for the swap are on the 5140. it should be a VE pump, turn it up a bit to match what the 5140 puts out.
