70.5 Camaro Tube Chassis Dmax

Maybe when considering the multiple layers of design/sponsor logos and such in the graphics a wrap may be lighter as it is done in one layer, but I doubt it is lighter than a standard single color paint job...

Wraps are great in that you can change your design easily and such though... And if you want very complex graphics a wrap may be much cheaper than having a custom painter do it.

But I think most wraps are best applied over a base paint job, not raw metal or fiberglass bodywork...

A wrap is lighter?!?! I understand a cpl gallons of product get sprayed onto a vehicle when it gets painted & I understand the actual gallon of product isn't light but when it dries & goes through a chemical change, I assumed it lost some mass in doing so & didn't actually way as much. No?

sprayable gallon x % solids = Solids in gallons/ gallon

solids in gallons/ gallon x product density= weight that stays on vehicle/ gallon

Obviously some math in between but you get the idea.

Sometimes product density can be difficult to find so:

Weight of sprayable gallon x (100-% solids) = thinner per gallon

Thinner per gallon x thinner density= weight of thinner per gallon

Weight of gallon - weight of thinner per gallon= solids that stay on vehicle per gallon

It is tough to really put a number on it though as each booth/ gun setup/ operator will have differing amounts of overspray

Only gives you a rough estimation.

It's what I was told. Wraps save weight and are even better when you damage a component. I would take his word with The time and I investment those teams have in there cars. I can see it if you think about primer then base then clear. It adds up

Seeing that there won't be any NHRDA Cali events this season, looks like I'm going to be putting miles on the tow rig, so it's a possibility.

I say do some grudge racing...last event I went to in Redding a 144mph 1/8th trap speed (they weren't showing times) won the big tire class. Should be no problem for some lightweight Duramax muscle :cheer:LOL

Are they associated with MSR? Buddy of mine works there and they wrap theirs too.

Yes sir. Mike specifically. I used to live less than a mile from mike when I was new to the are. He and his friends welcomed me to the area and that's where I learned that. Good people

Really cool build, I sold my long block to a guy in Michigan who has the same idea going for his tube chassis Nova!

They called it off for a while, severe flooding and ice in both OKC an Tx. Going to try again in a month or so.

I've been waiting for a diesel to race them, I know of a few trucks/cars that would give them a very very good run for their money.
