A-pillar ?

Hey guys
I'm gonna be ordering gauges. If any of you are running the A-pillar type, how did you overcome the handle on the pillar. My truck has the handle on the pillar. Does it get cut off? What do I need to do?

When we install them we take the OE pillar out completely, and use an Autometer Pillar which fits quite nice. If you are going with a full pod of (3) gauges you will have to sacrifice the handle.

I got my triple gauge pod from Diesel Manor...exact same color and texture and they have the white faced gauges that match the factory gauges exactly.

AS for the handle, you have to lose the drivers side, but no big deal to me.

Thanks for the info guys. No need for the handle here. Just wanted to make sure I didn't have to go cuttin on the thing and then have to use it under the gauge pod. Thanks again.

NO.... I cut the first one I did back in 04/05.... what a mess and even tougher to install. The a pillar will be not quite as tight as the stocker but it's the better way to do it.
 
With just the gauge pod, did you notice any unwanted rattles or anything like that?

i have tons of rattles....you would think someone would make a pod that fits as good as the stocker...
 
Yeah I kind of figured there would be rattles if I just installed the gauge pod, but damn cutting on the stock one has got to be a PITA to go under. Hmmmm, I wonder if dodge makes an a-pillar with no handle I can put under the gauge pod. Anyone anyone

My dad's 03 has a full triple pod and it doesn't rattle. If it's put in right it won't rattle.

trust me, i put it in right. you can tell by looking at the two pieces ( stock and triple pod) that its gonna fit different, mine was shaped different on the end towards the dash and there are big gaps. and it isnt as sturdy as the stock piece. but i also go down alot of bumpy roads, that could be why i hear lots of rattles out of it
 
Well mine came out of 973604X4's truck when he switched it up to the dash pod and the single SRT with handle pod. But I know that some of them fit differently.
 
i got mine from dodge and i think phils was an autometer pod.....maybe thats why.
 
the rattle is a scrifice that needs to be made, hacking up the OEM pillar does little to help intall and makes things way tougher to plumb and maintain.

The Auotmeter pod is the for this application is some of their best work. That does not mean it fits OEM but is very good compared to other models and years. A little down home effort and ingenuity can make the install premium.... a little clear silicone here and there and the plastic won't rattle. I know because I have put them in for the most sensitive customers and I got paid.

Think through it and some simple shop supplies can always imporve any project..... By the way, clear RTV is my favorite:evil
 
Thanks for the inputs guys. It definately sounds like the autometer pod is the way to go. I wonder if some real soft foam like material behind everything would help also.

you can still have 3 gauges and retain the factory handle. got it on mine. will post pics when i get home. work computer won't let me do much more than post a reply.

oh and you don't have to cut anything up and will not rattle!

FWIW

That's not a bad idea. Just remember you're going to have wires and stuff behind there and there's not a lot of room for a foam filler. Maybe if you get it into small pieces it might work so that it can go into the small spaces. Probably most of the rattle is going to come from the bottom where it squeezes behind the trim and the dash with nothing holding it in place. At the top it's screwed in so I wouldn't think it would rattle from that area. Just try it and see what works best for you.
