For those of us who don't have weight brackets what are acceptable alternatives to hanging weights. I just loaded 800 lbs of salt into the cab of the truck in preparation for tomarrows pulls. Think thats a problem? Even with that much I still figure I'm only 7600 or so...

well the whole point of hanging weight is to get the weight over the front axles I dont think the cab will really help you that much.

not really. if we could be as light as possible in the middle of the truck it would be better and let the sled pull the middle and back down and let the weight in the front help with traction. If i could be 6000lbs but still hang 1000 on the front and make 7000lbs in a 8000lb class I would be ok with that less weight I have to pull.:Cheer:

it is better than not having any at all before i built my weight bracket i just threw my weights up under my toolbox.... but i do know that some associations wont allow it in the cab because they dont want anything to be loose in the cab in case of an accident

I don't have a weight rack or I wouldn't bother doing what Im doing ATM.

build a weight box for the front and throw that salt in the box. then when winter comes you can keep the box on a make your own path....:lolly:

I'll get around to a box someday, but the pull is tomarrow. I can't build quite that fast.

The added weight will help. I used to put weights in my truck too just so I wasnt 1200 lighter than everyone else. It helps no matter what some may say. Im sure most of them just had racks and did it that way so have no idea if it helps or not. But from personal experience, it helps some. Yes weight out front helps alot more though. I didnt have the money to buy a rack, or time to build one so do what works till you can

Last pull I weighted in at 6860. Then I put 2 suitcase weights in at 75lbs a piece. So I was just barely over 7,000. Now I have 800 lbs of salt in the truck. 5, 80lb bags on the passenger side, and 5 on the backseat/floor. I straped a seatbelt on em too. lol.

If you don't think the added weight will help, watch a stock 10,000 lb truck put the hurt on a slightly modded 8000 truck.

That was my point. more weight, even not in the best location, is going to help.

Well, I drag race too, so a heavy bumper would be shooting my self in the foot. It will be easier to build a rack and just unhook it when I'm done. I guess the salt did alright. I wasn't 1st, but I wasn't last...

When I didn't have a weight rack i stacked it up in the bed of the truck towards the cab and it seemed to help a little bit.
