What is yalls opinion on running a filter on a puller or just an open intake?
I know a filter is a restriction but I just want to keep both my new charger and my engine alive as long as possible. We tend to have some dusty track conditions around here somtimes and really dont want all that crap in my engine.
If any of yall run a filter what brand do ya use? Looking for one that will flow as much as possible but wont collapse under a load. Have seen some take panty hose and clamp over the inducer to keep the big stuff out.
What do yall think?

Thanks
Lynn

i would run a filter you got to much in to your engine turbo to mess it up with dust but then again you see most tractor and truck pullers run nothing.

i guess my answer didnt help you out so just wait to see what the others say

Hey Man you just think like I do. Im all about saving myself some green... or atleast hold on to it a little longer...

I couldn't find a conical filter that seemed big enough. So I used a 14" air cleaner setup from a gasser. They have a 5-1/8" neck, so 5" ex. pipe fits right in. I welded in a short piece to hook the silicone coupler to. I am going to use an AFE 14"x6" dry flow filter. It has almost twice the surface area of a 12" long 5.5/7.5" cone.

The filter in on back-order, so someday I will be able to post pics of it. I also incorporated a guillotine shut off into it.

Hmm Yeah finding one with enough surface area is a problem for sure. I thought about getting one of the big gasser filters andmounting it outside the hood like I have saw a few of the tractor pullers do.

nope, i dont even run one of the street half the time...it kept collapsing so I gave up on it. i just dont drive it in heavy rain and dont have to worry about dust around here.

Knowing my luck if I were to do that around here, I would suck a bird through it or somthing like that. Shew Ive seen skeeters around here that could take one out....:charger:

LOL Yeah i usually always run a filter when pulling but i think im going to try a few hooks without running one.

I would run one.
Measure how big of one you can fit in the area(base dia, length, cone diameter, and inlet diameter and buy the biggest that will fit into your space. you can look at the afe blue filters to start. lots of universal sizes to pick from. No use harming your engine if htats what your more concerned with.

I remember reading somewhere a while ago that some did some sort of testing and that running with NO filter actually lowered flow/hp. Now if that is correct there may be a point in HIGH flow/hp where you may be better off without a filter, but I have no idea where that would be and I did NOT stay at a holiday inn express last night.

I usally never ran one but after the pull in Hodgevill last year I will , I pulled my turbo off and the inducer had alot of small chips in it , pretty much needs a new wheel now

It may work on the drag strip(clean air and not much debris), but in the dirt I am not going to take any chances.

there was a thread about this a few weeks ago. Somebody posted a company and link where they would build you any size filter and inlet sizes you needed. Maybe somebody will share that link again, because i can't remember what thread it was in.

Brandon have you ever ran with a filter? If so did you feel a difference when you ran without one?

K&N makes some large filters with an internal heavy duty wire screen to prevent collapse. They are up to 18 inches long and about 6 or so inches in diameter.
AFE make several large filters that would also work and not collapse.

Subscribed.

Need one too!

Hey Lynn.....you can get a rubber 6" to 4" reducer in your local lowe's plumbing department for $22. Even comes with the hose clamps!:rockwoot: Thanks to Teddybear for that one!

Never, but how stiff the competition is if u loose a few horse 1-10 that might be 000.01" u loose to on the track. This is all a matter of opinion cause no one can say anything to make me run 1 and im sure others feel the same way about not running 1. Do what u want but I dont and I guess my truck ran ok.

Yeah we got a test hook may 2nd and im going to see if there is a difference in running one and not running one.

What about you? Going to get a test hook on G-thang before TS?
