Is there a standard on what sled use to hook to the shut off cable. what happens when the truck breaks away and the shut off is pulled, is it supposed to pull the cable all the way out?

What if i used a couple heavy zip ties to attach a ring to the cable loop, that way it was strong enough to pull the pin but when my cable his the tube its in and stops it will break the ring from the back of the cable and not do any damage with that 1/8" aircraft cable getting pulled through the truck

Typically if pulls the cable completely out and you have to rethread it back in the jacket.

mines not coming out, unless it breaks. its 1/8" cable in some 5/16" brake line, heavily greased, works like a charm, i just have to make a way for the ring to break off from the back or else its fonna try to peel 12' of heavy brake line, cable, and mounting brackets out of the truck which will result is some serious damage

i know some of the tractor pullers in my area just use zip ties on theres

i guess tomorrow ill hook it to a tree and take off and see what happens LOL i think using the ring with zip ties as a weak link will do the trick.

I was planning on zipties as well... It should work fine as long as you have a good stop to prevent the cable from pulling out... Shouldn't take a very big one...

tj how much force does it take to pull the pin you could use a single binder ring.

i know that on my first test using one small zip tie it broke and didnt pull the pin. im gonna go up one size, and try 2 of them. it has a pretty good stop for the cable tho, ill get pics tomorrow.

Sounds like I have the same type of cable you(TJ) have. I just put a zip tie on mine as the week link after the cable is pulled.

I use 3 small zip ties. Haven't really had to use it on the sled yet but I hope it works fine when I do.

here are the pics. all said and done I have about $125 in the setup including the brake line, cable, hardware, misc elbows/bends/reducers, the actual shut off, clamps etc. it works, i tested it. and its not the kind that will stop the air 100% and possibly cause damage to the turbo. it has a small hole in the center for the pin and leaks slightly around the gate, but it will take the truck down to 1500 or a little less.

Piano wire works as well if the zip tie thing doesnt.

you mean use the piano wire for the whole thing or use it to attach a ring to the cable?

and Jory, no pics of it at night i dont think, ill check tho. they do light up the grill pretty good tho, and with the unpainted CAC it reflect pretty good on the grill.

im going to take those off and add a couple with clear lenses to the bottom of the hood tho, need better under hood lighting at night when im at a pull checking things over, or making last minute repairs in the dark.

Use it in the rear, I assume you have some ring or loop back there. Take and wire a key ring to your existing ring or loop and let that tear off after its tripped your shut off. There is enough strength to pull the pin but then once your cable hits its stop under hood it will break free.

Thanks, ill try a couple tests with the zip ties and see if can make it work, if not I'll try some other options.

One other thing zip tie the cable to the truck. So when they hang the hook on the ring, the hook bouncing around will be bouncing against the ziptie, not working the cableout.

Yea ill be finishing it tonight and I am gonna make it so one of the small lightweight zip ties holds the ring to my sled stop so it cant be pulled by accident etc.
