All out D80 Mods????

Hey Jerrod - in a class where one must run an axle that came in a factory 1 ton, what else is there

We can run larger axles, but honestly...I don't really see the point up here in Ontario on our less than perfect tracks as I never once had a problem with the old truck and that motor was putting out way more torque with the twins....RyanB

This is what Ryan said

I think even if you can run open dl, if you can fab this stuff up on your own i think running a girdle and truss or whatever is still an option if thats all thats needed to stop breakage. Plus even in pro mod up here some trucks are still street driven, which is not really an option with a rockwell welded to the frame.

Ken- you obviously have never pulled at Elora or even Fergus (when it doesn't rain for a week before the pull)....Those tracks are probably by far the tightest we have up here and my honest opinion is that either one of them could easly compare to what I pulled at in Indiana. As far as needing anything more than a D80, 10.5 Sterling or 14bolt...doubtfull up here. I have a F106 sitting here and honestly, for my aplication I would rather just run the D80. 5:13 gears, spool, 37spline axles and a girdle like pictured above and the truss and I don't think I will have much of a problem.

Jerrod- My class allows the big stuff if we want to run it, these other guys are more along the 2.6-2.8" rules for drive train.

Jupton-I wouldn't come out and say that all of the Pro-Mod trucks up here are driven on the street. Not sure how long you have been following pulling up here but untill this past year only 1 of the trucks was really streetable. I couldn't imagine driving my old truck on the street let alone Heaths truck...and you havn't even seen whats up for this comming year!

Anyway, back to this thread....any more info on all the above mentioned goodies. I am really liking this super thick girdle idea. What size of studs are you using to still be able to run the stock cover ontop of it?

I agree Ryan my truck didn't like Fergus of Drayton too much!!! LOL
Fergus was a little bit tighter the second time around.

I have run Elora and Fergus - several times many years ago - tough tracks to be sure but not in the same vien as Erin was the last time i ran there

35 trucks showed for four classes and only about three came off the track under thier own power but then that was mm say 1999 or so and I am sure things have changed since then

Ryan - Heath said at the meeting the other nite there are only three trucks for promod this year - so me thinks there is nuthin new comin out - unless your goin to field a truck for the first time in years

Ken- Lets get back on track here........... FYI 2009 was the first whole season i have missed in a quite a few years, i didnt take off 6-7 years like you........... can we please get back to the origianal thread and not bash eachother.

Sorry Ryan were stealing your thread here but I also am interested in this and would like to see what others are doing to fix this problem

Sorry if I derailed anyhting - wasnt intentional - hey Ryan - nobody was bashin - I was just repeatin heath who very clearly said three trucks for 2010 - and if u build sumthin would be four

And i only took off three years, 05-08 - oops 07 - ran in 08

yes - I would love to see what it takes to make a factory 1ton rear axle live

The way my trucks sitting right now it won't be doing anything.

What??? whats goin on?

Ryan i just said some are street driven. Randy and curtis come to mind this year, but i know what you mean, its not meant to be a street class

I sell these dana 80 girdle plates

these are cnc lazer cut that holds precision within .04"
the plate is not 1 1/2" thick but the solid all welded cover reinforces it
the 2" hole in the center will have a plug in it and you can remove it to inspect your ring gear without removing the cover

jmar that looks like a good design. Have you thought about doing a truss off it like in the above posts? Looks like it would be perfect for that, nice and heavy duty.

I just got done finished designing a full girdle/cover for mine. Just sent the drawings out to get quoted from my buddy with a CNC mill. I did a ton of searching and I have decieded to go with a full billet piece with the load bolts for the bearing caps. Spleaking of bearing caps....anyone think there would be an advantage of getting billet caps made? got a price on them to fit the new cover and the price is great on them.

To do the bearing caps right they need to be custom fit for each axle. So the cost to make the bearing caps isn't bad, it is setting them up for each axle.
