Another fueling problem.

Oh God, here we go with the "grounds" again. :hehe:

I just put a new (used) ECM in it from Bob Wagner. My ECM took a dump and went all kinds of crazy. He sold me one for a great price out of another truck. It ran great since the first time I fired it up about two months ago. Only problem is, my ABS and Brake light won't go off because I get a "VIN mismatch" error. The PCM has the correct VIN, but I didn't know the ECM had to have the VIN too. Is that true? The LP must have power because when it studders the PSI actually goes up to 18 or 19 where it doesn't usually go. The gauge I'm looking at is the one connected to the Attitude monitor. The sensor is, well you know where it is. I guess it could be cutting it real short and then when it turns back on it surges. I'll put my DMM on the wire when I get a chance and test out the lift pump first since it is easier.

Thanks for the tips.

Nope. Doesn't matter. The ECM doesn't care what your VIN is.

Jory the readon your ABS, Brake light won't go off is because of one of the sensors. Buddy of mine had a an 01 dodge and his was the same way.

I had a guy hook a Snap On reader to it, the $5000 one, and the only code or error it displayed at that time was "VIN mismatch". I just bought a brand new PCM and told them the VIN and they supposedely programmed it. I've had this issue ever since I put the new PCM and used ECM in togther. I guess I'll find out in the morning when they put the DRB on it. There isn't a sensor other than the APPS that ain't new on this SOB except for the cam position sensor.

I know the feeling jory. And trust me, a cam sensor is not a fun thing to change on a hot engine.

Ok. Truck is back. Dodge says "has wrong VIN in PCM - will need new PCM or ABS module to correct".

They also told me thay can not program new VINs once they are programmed since mine is a reman unit.

Called the PCM manufacturer. They said the guy that sold it to me was fired because he was a moron and they can not program the VIN and milage in a diesel module. They told me Dodge could connect their DRB to a laptop and down load the string code while connected to the truck and it will unlock the VIN and milage codes where they can change them.

Called the dealer back and explained it to them. They siad they could not do it and good luck.

Searching for an new dealer now....

P.S. No hard codes present and no signs of any failures....which hopefully mean it is not my IP going out? Hope so.

John Vance in Guthrie, OK's service guy just told me he's almost cetain they can do it, but he'd check with the diesel tech and have thim call me. I hope they can do it so I can send an instruction booklet to Stillwater with a bill for my diagnostic invoice.

Damn man! Your gonna end up killin' somebody over this aren't you.

Yes, sir, indeed I may. That is such a crock of shiznit!

The tech called me from John Vance. He said, "hi this is Trent." I said "Trent?" He said, "yes." I said "you used to work in Stillwater, right?" He said, "yes." I said "silver dually, big bumper, hopped up." He said, "I remember working on your truck." Anyways, he's the one who put the IP in when it crapped at 35K under warranty years ago. Anyway, he doesn't know how to program the damnnn PCM either but at least he said he'd call DRB and try to find out.

Note: I drained off some water out of my seperater and it cured the idle.....until the next day. I thought I had it. Now it just idles bad every other time I start it. All the injector lines are tight. I'll have to play with it some more. It has to be something stupid....maybe just the driver! :D.

Thinkin' 'bout having the injectors cleaned and pop tested. Would different pop pressures cause it to idle bad? I would think it would, but then it should be consistant though.... :bang I'm still learning but lack a fix or two from being a full fledged diesel mechanic! LOL

You can have a couple of injectors go bad. And different pop pressures could cause a funky idle.

But it shouldn't case it to clear up then idle bad then clear up again? The pops shouldn't change, or can they?

I feel bad for not thinking of that myself Jory, a wonky injector can cause a bunch of strange stuff, best part is it's a low cost check/fix.

I've got a buddy who used to run jammer 5's and every 30sec-1min the truck would start loping and then it would smooth out and then do it again.

I really want a new set of nice EDM injectors with built bodies, not just tips screwed on stock crap. :D O how I wish I could win the lottery. Tyler, I'd buy you a truck if I win....but I don't play because I think it is a waste of money. I read that you have a better chance of dying in a car accident on the way to buy the ticket than actually winning. LOL
