Another Land Speed Racing Diesel Truck Build...

Thanks again for the support, guys.

Last night, I got the inside of the cab painted in a very rudimentary paint booth set up in my garage. My wife said she never smelled paint in the house, so I figure I'm good to go again for additional painting. Anyway, here's a few quick pics.

Dave @ Passenger Diesel did 190whp uncorrected on a mustang dyno, with a 1.6idi bottom end, and a well ported 1.9 head, giles pump, and his own manifolds.

With a de-stroked 1.5L bottom end, I'd feel pretty confident that engine could power my Rampage to a new record.

I need to research the Passenger Diesel manifolds.

Thanks for the support, guys. The cage went in for the final time yesterday. If the cage has to come out now, it's going to be a MAJOR project...

I should have one of the very few Rampages with up to 3/8" of steel in the floorboards. 1/8" for the "floorboards" themselves, and another 1/4" for the foot plates of the cage.

I was gonna answer your thread on landracing, but am not a member over there.
as far as your axle flip and needing 4"longer shocks.

reinforce the down tubes of your roll cage in the bed and have the shock upper mount move 4" upward to the downtube. you can also lower the lower mount, its not like you will have ground clearance issues out there.

Good thinking on moving the shock mounts up on the downtube, and either welding another cross-tube or some kind of brackets in place above the bed. That's defnitely a do-able modification. (I actually need shorter shocks, as the axle is being relocated above the springs).

You are also correct about moving the lower mounts down, there won't be a problem with ground clearance.. However, I'd prefer to leave the stock rear axle just the way it is, and move the upper mounts "up".

Steve.

WOW - it's been a while since I posted any updates here. Since my last post, I welded the roof back on the truck, installed a mock-up engine and trans, got the suspenesion mostly figured out, and laid a paint job on the whole thing.

Here are a few current pics, taken over the weekend...

Next up - assembling the "real" engine (1.5L VW bottom end, 1.9L AAZ cylinder head, Garrett GT2056 turbo, custom cam from Canada, and a custom pump from Sweden).

Thanks for looking.

Steve.

Thanks - can you see the pics of the Sublime Paint Job? They are not displaying for me.

After you get tired of your itty bitty turbo, you can always use a production holset off of a 5.9L or something as an atmosphere charger and compound em. :Cheer:

the truck really looks good , Love the green
as far as a turbo ,I used a HY 35 with a HX 30 exhaust housing that Industrial Injection did for me, as a single and it made good power and was close to being conferrable to drive on the street. It made 40 + psi boost when we dynoed it, made 347 hp.
We are also going for the under 2 liter record at Bonneville in diesel truck
Good luck and see you out there Rick believes we should be able to take the record from 129 current to 175 to 180.The truck we are putting the motor in has quite a few records now at well over 200 mph
