Anyone run on grease?

Ahhh. Now I remember the methanol. For some reason I was thinking it was just lye. And to think, I'm writing a term paper on bio fuels. LOL

Thinking about one of those kits.

A friend of mine for Michigan the the cooking oil setup on the 7.3. He liked it, kinda smelled like a cross of McDonalds, Burger King, and Chinese. He had a contract with a couple of places the he would by it from them at i think 20 cents a gallon. But this was a couple years ago. Things might have changed by now.

Oh, I thought you were talking on the truck.:bang
Yeah, making bio can be very dangerous.
That's why I just buy it, but i'd like to run straight WVO if it doesn't F things up.

Ok, so Ive heard of making biodiesel, but I didnt know you could run on WVO. Is that straight or do you mix it with somthing?

You can run it straight, but you need to filter it pretty good, at least 10 microns I would say, but you also need a second tank. You run on diesel till your at full operating temp. then switch over to WVO. When you get where you are going you switch back to diesel till your lines and everything are purged of the oil, then shut-off. You also need a fuel heater for the oil to keep it more fluid if your not in a hot climate, or it can gel in the lines/tank. Also, if your engine isn't hot enough when you switch over you can coke you injectors too. It seems like a hassle to me and I like my bedspace. I don't want to have to run seperate tanks. I would also think the processed oil would burn easier than just the filtered oil. I am also basing this off everything I have been reading, so I don't have any actual experience yet. Though I do work with a guy who runs straight WVO in his 2007 Jetta TDI and said it gets the same mileage and he gets the oil for free, I'm just kinda leary about running straight oil through my pumps and injectors....

I always considered an alternative fuel with veg oil since my father owns a restaurant. I would have unlimited supply of oil.

All 6 of your post have been the exact same. Go advertise in another forum.

I built my own bio kit at a Bio diesel meeting and all it does is collect dust because of lack of source of WVO

What all is involved in your setup? Do you do the lye and methanol mixing, or just the extra filtering of WVO? Also, some pics would be great too. I like Fuelmeister's setup, but I think I may be able to build it from scratch for alot cheaper using theirs as my example.

No, according to the info I recieved you add lye and methanol and mix for an hour. After that you drain all the glycerin(fat?) that seperated from the oil. Then you water wash it, let the water seperate(dry) and supposedly you are ready to go. Though I think I would have a water seperator plumbed in also just as an extra precaution. Basically it sounds like a cleaner version than just filtering WVO...But I'm no chemist.

You add Lye according the Acidic content in the WVO to neutralize the Acid. Methonal is the atalyst. You can pretty much get all the water out if you dry it right. I don't even have my kit set up anymore because of lack of a source of WVO. And for those who don't know, you can't use Hydronated WVO. I think it might work if you are running it straight though, not for sure. Here's my pics when I had it up.
