Bigger valves for 12v

When I had the intake valves all across they were not coated and they were fine when I pulled the head. What kind of coating are you guys using? And if you use 351W valves what do you do for locks and retainers if you want to use 60# Cummins springs?

I had this guy take care of the coatings he is a member here.. Not too sure who he uses..

no idea, i mocked up using a set of gasser springs/retainers etc from one of my other projects

We have used all intake valves across the head for a few years.

Haven't had any problems until this year.. A few of the exhaust valves were starting to tulip. HOWEVER, the last run I did, I melted a piston, so that might have happened in that single run. No way to tell for sure.

This is interesting does anyone know how large a olds 455 valve is compared to a 351w valve?

given there are about 12 different size 351w intake valve sizes, I am not sure one could answer in regard to a olds valve

The problem with any other valve i looked at, the stem was the wrong length, and the keeper groove to top of stem was also wrong.

As it is, the Ford valve is slightly shorter (.023 if memory serves) but can be made up with a lash cap which just happens to be beneficial for larger lift cams, so as to keep the rocker centered over the valve

Installed spring height with the Ford valve is still around 1.9 give or take

I know a guy that uses SBC springs, Mnaley Titanium retainers and locks, Manley 428 Pontiac exhaust valves, and I can't remember what for the intake. I know he had to massage the cylinder wall to allow room for the new valve. That truck ran pretty hard too.

Plus I am sure you have a lot higher timing and EGT's than most people lol. I am hoping to keep EGT's less than 1400* in any condition on my new build.

1.97in and a 1.87ex all inconell and 11/32 stem

When running valves this size what size bore would you have to run to clear. Would .040 over piston be enough to clear. I know you can only go so big on valves with stock bore. With the valve size above if it doesnt fit in a .040 piston are you machine the head so valves sit further up in the head. What are guys using for valve springs. With the larger valve springs im using the head will need to be machined so they will fit and will be using chromoley retainers and 10deg locks.
