Billit Block

$15,000 for a rough machined B series cummins.

I would estimate 20k for a 6.5, then you will have over 6k in a rotating assembly, and about 5-8k in head work.

Not to mention the cost of the custom gear housing and the pump to feed it.

All that and you will still be seriously constrained by the heads. This is assuming that the heads can even hold the pressure.

its not the fact that you can drop a programmer down and make a ton of power its the fact that you built a more powerful diesel engine with your own hands. not just some tune you used your thumbs to download. thats not worthless

Sorry, but a POS is still a POS even if you built it with your own hands..

I say put your money into a duramax. By the time you get done with the 6.5 the only difference in it and a duramax will be .1 liter the overpriced block and the injection pump. Take the time and money and do a p- pumped duramax.

If you want to do something with your hands comparable to building a high performance 6.5...get some Lego's or and erector set...you will be happier that it will take less time and money to rebuild it when you break it ;)

X2...the 6.9L/7.3L IH platform would even be a better choice than the 6.5L GM platform.

Rotating mass vs reciprocating mass There is a huge difference...

I am well aware of that. Lighter rods is one thing, but the poster I quoted stated a lighter crankshaft which is not reciprocating mass.

If you are going to all of the expense, just buy a Donovan block, a high end crank and have Arias build some custom pistons with d-max bowls. On the heads just machine them for a D-max injectors. I believe some of the Donovan blocks will accept up to 800 C.I. I don't think you need to re-invent wheel just adapt it for compression ignition.

Fulton has a 800+ cubic inch billet block. Don't know if it would/could convert to diesel.
