Blew the rear freeze plug...

Even with a clipped water pump, it let go about 30 min before I was gonna leave for a pull. I was trying to get my external wastegate setup correctly, engine was warm, just getting into the throttle about 15 psi boost and 2600-2800 rpm and it went... (a side note - it held two passes at 4500 rpm the last couple of weeks with no problems)

Had to call the wife to tow me home...

Atleast the Ford that pulled me home had a cummins in it... Otherwise I'd have to push it. :hehe:

That sucks.. I just put my dual disk in lastnight, and almost decided not to put a plate on the back of the engine.. It only took a few minutes... The plate was 7.5 inches long, and the holes were 6.5 inches apart, center to center...

Man, it would be a wise note for anybody with engine out to put bolt in freeze plugs to replace all the large ones

I've had a block off plate laying here for a few weeks, and though about putting it in when I had my manifold/turbo off but I figured it would be a pain in the butt to knock the old plug out... Won't be an issue now I guess...

I plan to just block off the back plug and put a watts bypass regulator between #5 & # 6 on the head and route it to the thermostate outlet housing...

I just made a plate to go over the stocker. I was able to put it on with everything on the truck.

i did mine used like a 5ft 3/8 ext to get to the bolt on the drivers side,,passagers side is cake ... i went in from behind the transfore case with the ext

I was able to get mine in by reaching behind the block from the passenger side on top.

Dan, that must have been before the install of the ext. gate? I don't think I can get to it from above anymore with the gate in there... I'll see what I can get to tonight.

My block off plate has an oring to seal, I suppose I should use gasket sealer as well to make sure it doesn't leak?

Anyone know what size bolts I need?

I think they are 12mm metric I forget though. I had a block sitting there so I just made the plate out of some steel, and then found some bolts to put it in.

My gate is mounted a little different than most, so maybe that is what allows the clearance.

Now when the rear plug is blocked off, isnt the front plugs going to blow?

I talked to Woodruff last week and they said they are getting a shipment of their plated with the threaded hole in them this week.
IIRC, they are only $42.
I was going to at least put the plate in with a 90* elbow and a 2 or 3' of 3/4" heater hose, so I can at least do the bypass later on.

I have the trans out now, so I might as well do it.

Possibly, but I have really hacked my water pump down, and opened up my thermostat. The truck will not heat up at all unless you shut the electric fans off. It wouldn't heat above 130 when I had the manual fan on it.

I took about a 1/4" off the water pump and have a few holes in the thermostat. It won't get above 130 just idling either (still have the mech fan)...

Dont you just use your truck as a puller?

Mine is a daily driver/tow rig for my camper, and I like to go to the drag strip.
Trimming the water pump fins would probably hurt me while towing.

I just bolted a plate on with same bolts that mount the motor mounts on. Not sure what size....Then trashed a HG at the next pull. It's gonna be one of those years.

Put the plate on the back of the block from the top passenger side (had to remove my wastegate piping to get to it).

Then I installed the Watts pressure relief valve (530C I think) on the head between #5 & 6 and ran it up to the thermostat housing (just tapped it). Worked really good, set it to open at about 35 psi using shop air. Hopefully, won't have any more issues.

I gutted my Tstat and put a huge washer with a 1/2 hole inside the housing to restrict flow and only fill the Rad to 3/4 full if that (knock on wood) no probs yet and my water pump is not clipped temps stay 150

Mine just let go to:doh: What a PITA. Buddy on his way with a trailer now. What sucks is that all my buddies with dodges are all busy, i am never going to live this down Getting pulled by a Ford LOL. I am glad i got a hold of Keating before he left the shop to get a block off plate.
