blown head gasket with studs

Cylinder pressure will always trump drive pressure and intake manifold pressure. if hes running that much fuel through a stock turbo, he would of detonated the turbo long before that head gasket gave. he didn't re-torque his head. ive seen to many 50 lbs+ 24v engines that don't have head gasket issues.

Well im at 240k with mods in my sig. Put turbo on around 235k and still stock gasket and bolts have never been retorqued and i still have stock clutch in my truck. I know all trucks are different but with a littlle commom sense it does help things hold together. But if you blew hg in your last truck then you might want to think about the way you drive the dam thing cause they are good motors but not idiot proof!

ya i admit it was a lil cold when i blew it.. i guess i need to pay more attention when i am driving. thanks for the advise

I never have any luck with a head gasket staying unless i use the cummins head gasket. IF you use a cummins head gasket and u are tightening your head studs with a torque wrench and going in the correct pattern and ur head has nothing wrong with it u should not have any problems after u put the new head gasket on run the truck and then after it warms up re tightening the studs and u should be safe.

got my head retorqued tonight and readjusted my valves.. i hooked my waste gate back up and this thing will NOT build over 27 lbs of boost.. kind runs like poo. am i gonna pop my head gasket again if i block off my wastegate but watch my boost?? it just seems like the waste gate kicks in too soon

Put an adjustable boost elbow to restrict the boost the wastegate sees. Or put a hose clamp on the boost refference line and tighten it down till you get the desired wastegate open pressure.

be sure coolant temp is above 150 or you will most likely pop it again

ok thanks for advise.. i think the only reason i blew it last time is because it wasnt warm yet.

Beginning to open vs fully open is two different things. It needs to be fully open so the flow is unrestricted.

:bang I poped mine after a week of easy driving first time I got on it. But stock bolts and gasket held just fine

Nope. Full open would be what the t-stat is set at which factory would be around 190*.

Drive Pressure from blocking the wastegate.

Your post is actually a how to manuel on how to blow a headgasket, you have it all. Drive pressure like apocolypse1812 said, no rings, stock turbo, the Quad box's timing, bigger injectors and stock compression.

Your cylinder pressure is something out of a science fiction novel. Have you looked into O Rings or Fire Rings?

I've never heard of a good explanation on how drive pressure kills head gaskets. High cylinder pressure yes. Full boost on a cold engine yes.

I guess maybe my temp gauge doesnt work right... My truck never seems to get above 135 or 140 degrees... The needle hardly moves, even after Ive been driving it pretty hard...
