So I am planning on pulling workstock next year and I have decided to go with an he351ve turbo off of a common rail on my 99, but my question is how big of an injector can i run to compete with the common rails and dmax's? I have been thinking ddp 200's or Mach5's (also a 200hp injector) would have it running pretty stout, but is that too much of an injector for the 351? If so what injector would you suggest? The turbo rule states it must be a stock charger off of a 1 ton or lesser truck, and i believe the 351 would be easy to get bolted on and provide a decent amount of airflow to be competitive. Dual disc clutch, traction bars, and bump stops are a given, im just trying to get some advice on the injector/turbo combo that would be healthy to run.

You wont be able to keep up with the duramaxes and cr's IMHO. Been there tried that. I would run a mach 7 or something of that quality and run it on the street without a box. I ran liked my ddp comps when i had them but never thought about putting them with a stock turbo. If you have any questions feel free to PM me. I say just buy a duramax that is already set up for pulling and haul it with your truck lol ;)

i honestly think that with a common rail turbo i'll be able to keep up with them. Thats the only thing different is the restrictive turbo. if i have enough fuel to keep up i would think the turbo would be good enough. Im not looking to make the most power, but i would think 525-550 would be plenty sufficient to be very competitive along with a properly setup suspension. And ive seen dyno numbers from several of the top competitiors in the workstock class and they were right around the numbers i just mentioned

and i actually just referred back to the dyno numbers recently put down by 3 of the top competitors in the workstock class with the B.O.B. pulling organization and they were in the 400-450 range, and ive seen/heard of people dynoing over 500 on that same dyno with the stock common rail turbo, so why wouldnt i be able to do that with the right fuel?? Im just worried about running too hot of an injector, and basically how big of an injector i can run with the stock common rail turbo

have some one upgrade your turbo. I'd say for 2010 your gonna need more then 450 hp range.

i would honestly like to be in the 525hp area if im pulling regularly in workstock. and they way i understand the turbo rule for the class, the charger has to be a stock charger from a 1 ton or lesser truck, meaning i cant upgrade the stock charger. I just dont want to drop the coin on something and then be teched and dq'd.

i just reread the rules, and the way I interpret them is that i CAN get a custom stock appearing turbo:

Turbocharger: The turbocharger is limited to a stock-appearing, OEM/Factory charger only.
Turbochargers from different years and different models may be interchanged. You are allowed
to take a hx35 off a Cummins and put on your Duramax or vice versa and you are allowed to put a
Duramax Turbo in your 82 Chevrolet with a 12 valve) 6.4L PowerStroke turbo is permitted.

Anyone retrofit one of those babies on anything? Good for 800hp #2/1000hp on N2O....

Don't the Duramax's have the biggest stock turbo? Something in the 66mm range? And don't they make cheater turbos for them that are 71mm in the stock housings? And would that fit on a Cummins?

I would have a hard time believing a vp truck will keep up with a common rail truck. whether it is a dmax or cummins. The commonrail system atomizes fuel much better, requiring less air for the same amount of power. That is why you see commonrail trucks putting out 500+ on a stock charger.

I think that they have 2.5 turbos

x2, the CR fuel injection works so much better than the VP system. You get better atomization with such high pressures that you can make tons more power with comparable amounts of fuel and air. All things the same, no way a VP 24V can beat a CR 24V... the CR will have more power.

considerin a stock duramax with just an EFI Live can put down around 525 hp,... and with a decent set of injectors - considerably more, I think you will need to have a heart to heart with your wallet if you wish to compete using a VP truck

There are some pretty nasty 6.4's running arround on the stock turbos, I think there gonna be just as hard to beat as the CR and Dmax's.

Rules are made to be broken. Whats the worst that will happen, you may get kicked out of a couple hooks hear and there. It just has to 'look' stock. good luck being competitive and playing by the rules.

X2 on playing by the rules when most guys are breaking them, There's many ways to beat the rules.

I would use a hx 50, yea it's old school but my friend has done it for quite awhile in "stock" classes up here in wisconsin, he made just under 600 hp with his set up and domanated the work stock pulls
