i finally threw a iron giant in and was just woundering if you guys that pull with them do anything special to break them, also do you think I can start off in fourth as long as I dont slip too much, or will it handle it all right. also my clutch dont engage tell the end of the pedal, is that normal with the iron giant or should it start engaging as soon as you start releasing the pedal. g56 with hydralic upgrades also

I've put a few miles on them before I hooked and I've gone straight to the pull after the install. It's best to dive it first to let it seat in. The gear choice depends on the power your making, gearing and track conditions. I pull fourth. Mine releases high on the pedal to.

sorry to steal your post, but how is the street manners on that? I cant decide between the 3850 ot the iron gaint. But i do drive everyday, pedal feel doesnt matter, I just dont want wiplash every time i take off.

Daily Driving I would go with a 3850 also if you tow anything 3850 non-feramic. However, It does depend on your HP/TQ numbers.

its not bad at all, you just wont hold the peddle in at stop lights anymore, and my wife put the first 200 miles on it and she is 4'11" and 100 pounds so that tells you anyone can drive it. The peddle pressure at first was real hard but now its alot easier to press, its not grabby at all, and you just need to give a little throttle to start and it actually goes pretty smooth. That was my main concern was streetability but its not bad at all, I have not towed with it so I dont know about that part

Towing is a little rough...reverse is a nightmare. The Iron Giant i'm sure wasn't designed with Daily Driving in mind more Sledpulling.

so as long as I have 500 + miles on it I should be able to come off the line at around 2500+ rpms in 4low 4th gear with out hurting the clutch, I think I have plenty of power to go 4th gear, third is wrapped out right off the line and bounces off my rev limiter the whole way down then spins out, I tried callin peter but couldnt get ahold of him

You'll be fine. I come out at 4k and get the tires turning asap.

ok thanks I have allready ruined a dd on one hook so I am a little nervous, but the other clutch wasnt a very good one I just took a chance running it and wasnt a good one.

I just got my 4200 IG and had about 100 yards on before my hook last night seems to be doin alright grabs really good

I've driven both the 3850 and the iron giant on the street you really wont tell much difference if any. I have also destroyed both of them. If you do drive a lot try to stick to highways. A lot of shifting wears out the forks pretty quick and they can bend or the pivot can break. So be nice to it on the street and drive like hell on the track!

Booshawg, you rode with me trying out a DD for the first time and I've driven a manaul truck for the past six years. I think you should go for the iron giant and be done with it. Heck by the trip back from Walmart I was getting better at it. BTW allisfarmer has a 3850dd.

I worried about my first DD purchase as well. The pedal is stiffer than stock but not bad, my wife drove my truck with a 3850 FB unsprung hub alot last fall when I had the Excursion tore apart. I'd just go straight for the iron giant and not worry about it. Reverse with a trailer is the only time you won't like it... But it's do-able...

no break in really required. mine never gets used till im pulling up to the line.

if the engagement was lower on the pedal it can make shifting harder. with it up high you get the most disengagement possible to let the plates get clearance.

fortunatly I rearely tow, if anything, its not heavy. I got a big enough foot I can handle the pedal. i guess you guys sold me on an Iron Gaint. Ill talk with peter before I make a decission because I DD my truck and dont want to be going through parts all the time.

here is a picture of the old clutch
