Cam gear didn't need pressing on...

I would repair the possible issue asap expecialy if your going to rpm the truck. Yes,the cp3 has alot less load as a p7100 but it still has a load. I just got off the phone with your installer and asked him about the retainer it has. He said it was a full nose cam with a dished washer with a resessed bolt. If the retainer sets flush with the cam nose it wont have the cam gear preloaded and it can wobble (for lack of better words) on the cam. he said that the noise is more pronounced at a running temp witch would make sense to me that the cam gear has oped up some and is causing your hot knock issue. Hope this helps you some. Good luck and if theres anything i can help with just call..........Brad

350 deg.? ha you should se what i heat them too at the shop with a high temp. oven! seriously, we do heat the gears to about 400-450 deg. F with no issues all the time, and they are normally in the oven for about 2 hours. in some applications you need to the gears to really hot to get them on, becuase most of the time we do not remove the camshafts, so we have to do a little bit of gear aligning (crank to cam, and cam to air compressor generally) while trying to put the gear on. not really hard, but you got like 30 seconds to do all that!
