I keep seeing alot of talk around CAM's. My question is two fold. First has anyone got " REAL" dyno numbers before and after? Second is and correct me if I'm wrong; but turbo spool is faster, maybe lower EGT's and better RPM range is the primary reason for a CAM. What did I leave out?

Been That route

Looked at as many threads as I could stand. Looking for real dyno numbers. Have seen everything from 4 or 5 HP to one person said around 70 HP. Looking for facts.

The spool, egts, rpm range, and poss. mileage isn't enough of a reason for ya???? It was for me!!

Power can be made with the other mods.....

Those are great reasons for making a CAM purchase, just want to understand if any real HP goes with it.

what you found, is what your going to get for answers. every truck is diff and your not going to get the same hp increase in any of them. some may not get any increase but spool might come on quiicker... then others might get better mpg because your getting more air in the cylinder its offers a wide range of capabilites. all in all a cam is a great mod for the money

My buddy and I just put in Maxspool 2.5+'s, Maxspool double valve springs, and Maxspool Pushrods.

Up untill today I had a stock charger. What I noticed on the stock charger was 4psi more boost. Which show's you that I'm moving more air. Also roughly 100*F egt drop on short 4th and 5th gear sprints. The biggest gain I noticed was, I had too much fuel for my stock charger in 6th gear. I'd nail it and it'd just get hot, no boost. I had to ease it up to about 20psi then get into it. With the cam, I could just nail it in 6th gear and boost would come on hard and instantly. Not to mention how much more driveable the truck was. Instant boost all the time. Didn't even matter what tune I was running. I towed a 32ft gooseneck race trailer this weekend to Goliad. ON STOCK TUNING! With no complaints at all. I tried my pressure box with it, I just didn't need it for the boost I was making. 30-38psi on texas hills with 4:10's, a NV5600, and the cruise set between 65 and 70. The springs and the cam really made my entire rpm range useable. And I picked up 1.3mpg hand calculated.

Now, as of today, my buddy and I both have Silver Bullets and we both have TNT-Race. I have a Dr. Performance varialble gain pressure module. He has II 150's and an II Dragon fire pump. And I can make my Silver Bullet smack at 15psi on stock injectors and pump. His Silver Bullet lights at 10psi. That speaks volumes about what a cam can do for you. Most people say the S.B. is laggy and you have to have huge injectors. All you need is good tuning and a cam. I can't believe how streetable my S.B is. I've heard people say they tow with them. Now I actually believe 'em.

A cam isn't all about HP numbers. Dyno comparison numbers would be nice to have for every cam installed but, this isn't a perfect world.

So, like Big Swole said, now spooling, egts, rpm range are all working for you instead of against you. I've read about people who don't have cam's talking bad about them. How much they cost, labor to install, etc. That's just because they don't know. A properly matched cam will make any engine perform better throughout the entire rpm range. And if you can wrench on your own truck, it's not that pricey to install one.

I'm so sold on cam's now that I'm already speaking with Greg Hogue at www.motorsportssupply.com about getting one of his new Cast billets with a bigger grind and slapping this 2.5+ in my 03 tow/daily driver. He's a forum sponsor and heck of nice guy to b.s. with. You can't go wrong with his products.

Cam's are one of those things you'll never miss untill you've tried one and then you'll wonder how you ever lived without one.

I have pic's of the cam install if anyone want's me to email them.

When it comes to power the cam is at the center of your power core, If you want to make good hp and really open up the other mods you have done a cam is the best way to go, its not a supporting mod but THE mod to do, most of the cams out there are good and will help depending on what you do with your truck. you can see anywhere from 5 to 100hp difference depending on how stock to how extreme your truck is maybe more, it accents everything in your truck and makes every componet work better, build your motor around your cam and you will have a great running rig.

My truck made about 7 pounds less boost. Boost is a measure of restriction. Cam lets motor flow more air, less restriction.

Glad I didn't quote the more boost thing before I read the whole thread. LOL

lets put it this way my buddy travis and i have almost the exact setup on engines. he is running a 06 with with 110 lbs springs and htt 62/71/14 turbo and spooling at like 2k rpms
i'm running a 04.5 110lbs springs htt 62/71/14 and a h2 cam and i spool around 13-14k rpms
other difference is i have a diy mod to my cp3 and i run a walbro lift pump where he runs an airdog. i have and auto he has a manual

That must sound awesome:hehe: Fuel mods do make a difference!

I thought I'd drop boost pressure too. The only theory I have is that the stock turbo was so maxed out before the cam that it didn't have a choice but to spin faster. We're talking about the most agressive programming available (apx. 650HP worth) and a cam on a little 9cm housing. You're absolutely correct, boost is only a measure of restriction and I'd say I had a restriction :bang. Now, my Silver Bullet's only making 42psi if that's any indicator of dropping boost pressure. I believe most SB's run around 60psi.
