Hi guys, im new to the forum and was wondering if anyone had any advice or ideas they were willing to share about building a 12v on a budget. Ive looking through the site and im also a member of cumminsforum, so ive found quite a bit of useful info out there. I was just curious if anyone knew of some more cheap mods i could do to my truck. Im still in college right now, so moneys a bit tight, and im putting off some of the expensive mods until im out of school. Right now i have a #100 fuel plate, 16.5* pump timing, an aftermarket air filter, 4" turbo back exh., ive played around a little bit with the preboost screw, and im running 35-40psi of boost. I use the truck as a daily driver and i also tow with it. I also plan on putting in a set of traction bars and a southbend or valair clutch soon.
I was wondering if anyone knew of some other mods or tricks i could do such as tuning or if there were any mods that i could do that didnt cost an arm and a leg. I am also getting a deal on some 90hp injectors, and was considering building a twin setup when i can save up enough $. Any input at all would be much apreciated!

That for safety, and 4k GSK with valve springs will be your best bet if you can't afford to beef up the trans yet.

gov. springs without a doubt wish i woulda done mine sooner makes a big difference

thanks i apreciate the input from everyone, ive been plannin on getting a set of gov. springs for awhile, just havent gotten around to doing it lol. Thanks again

The gsk springs are by far the best thing I ever did to my truck, I didnt do the valve springs yet and havent needed them but am going to have that done at the same time as my valves adjusted and timing bumped. Youve pretty much covered all the free and cheap stuff. There is a lot of good info on cumminsforum as you already know, i have a differant user name there but starting to venture onto this site more to see what else I can learn.

I think an exhaust manifold is a good buy for you. People are upgrading turbos you might pick one up on the cheap

Ya ive been thinking about doing the exhaust manifold aswell. Ive heard that the stock manifolds shrink over time, does anyone know if this is true or not? Mine looks to be ok, but a friend says it looks like it is starting to shrink. Im not sure if it is or not, or if it is something i need to take care of now.

There are way more and better things to spend money on than an exhaust manifold, unless its broke dont change it, even the aftermarket ones are known to crack and your not gonna gain much by changing it

Unless you're hanging a set of twins on that thing and want one for piece of mind, port out your stock one and put down the diesel mags. That money could go towards something worthwhile.

If money is tight, you shouldn't be modding at all. Wait till you can afford to fix the worst case scenerio problem that may arise (complete engine / trans rebuild).

Put more than one line in a post.

I'm assuming you need to PM someone. :bang

What would be the first clue there? The 10 posts they now have and haven't contributed, or the fact that they used 3 friggin posts to state not only what could have been said on one post, but that they were stating the blindly obvious?

And I would agree to a point on modding without fundage as I have and its cost me more than I care to say. Plan for the worst and hope for the best. I thought my "built" trans that I had bought the truck for would last and handle some power. I replaced it last summer and spent over 2500 doing it myself with input shaft, flexplate and so on.

Cheap, fast, reliable.... you can only pick 2. What's your choice?

Pretty much. I like the fact that they seem to think they are being sneaky.

I take that back, 4 posts.... Seriously?!? About as bad as the injectors thread the other day where the kid started talking about 8" stacks and EVERYONE read home the riot act. Guess we're just stuck with trolls now. Lol
