Glad to see someone knows the proper way to shorten a frame!
I thought that you were supposed to cut the frame at an angle and fishplate both sides?

$50 for the bed....You suck... I gave $300 for the one I have setting at the barn.....But mine did come with a 1/2 ton frame LOL
$50 + his old bed....atleast thats what I think I read.
correct. my old bed also had a rather large hole cut out of it for the fuel cell though LOL.
as far as the ways to cut the frame, people do it a lot of different ways. I prefer to cut it straight, weld it solid on the out side, and some stitching on the inside. and fish plate the outside.
NEVER fish plate both sides, you will weaken the frame with that much weld.
by fish plating the top and bottom, i can pretty much guarantee that section of the frame is stronger than it ever was before it was cut.
but like i said, everyone does it differently.
hit the bed with some rust converter today, we will see how it does, tomorrow im going to do the inside, im debating on dropping in a bed liner, not sure if its going to be extra weight that i dont need.
i cut 16.5" off the driveshaft and welded it back together, the local shop was so busy they wanted $200 to shorten it, so i did it myself, no vibrations, but seeing as the shaft sees maybe 4000 rpm (and by that point id be doing 130mph) i really wasnt expecting any. even if it does vibe and eventually breaks, i have drive shaft hoops.
If you dont feel any vibration, you should be good. But be careful because if it starts vibrating, its likely to crack the tailhousing on the transmission. My cousins 5spd had a U-Joint go out and it cracked the tailhousing on his.
I cant see the pictures for some reason, so i cant really say good work yet:hehe:
How did you go about shortening the driveshaft? I need to shorten mine about an inch and thought about doing it myself, just not sure what the best way to go about it is.
