I've dropped mpg while driving in -15 F weather. Went from 19 mpg at 20 F to about 14 mpg at sub zero temps. I tried searching the forum for something to confirm it's normal, but couldn't find any discussions on it. I found a few websites talking about a loss of mpg at colder temps due to the flashpoint characteristics of diesel changing in extreme cold, but does my 5 mpg drop seem right to anyone?

I wish I could get 14! Back and forth work city driving right now (read very fricken slow) and temps between -35F and -49F I am getting about 8.:bang I'll trade you.

Don't forget all of your fluids are a bit thicker too at this temperature, gear lube is probably the big one. Unless you're hauling and really get it heated up, it's not going to heat up as much.

Chunk of cardboard in front of the rad helps a lot too for having heat and faster warm up times. I'm tinkering with a set of shutters like the Mack's used to have. I think they'd be neat....
