Just aneal it before you put it back on. Of course if it's rubber coated that won't work so well...

Are you sure about that?

I use to do metal turning on a lathe and I think we did, on copper and aluminum. Oh well it was just a hobbie.

To anneal copper, you just need to reach the critical temp, cooling can either be quickly (quenching it) or slowly.

Annealing copper for a critical application like combustion sealing really ought to be done in an inert atmosphere... but sometimes going dead soft with a gas flame in the pits between rounds is what's required.

That makes sense, now do you use CO2 or Nitrogen or some other gas for shielding?
